Optimal AFK Spot Finder for Minecraft Spawners

Found two or three spawners close together? If you can stand somewhere that keeps all of them running at once, one AFK spot runs the whole XP farm. This calculator finds that spot. Type in each spawner's coordinates and it gives you the block to stand on, how far you are from every spawner, and a column for the elevator that brings the mobs up to you.

Spawner coordinates

Open F3, look straight at each spawner, and copy the numbers from the "Targeted Block" line.

#XYZ

How it works

A spawner only runs while a player is within 16 blocks of it. That range is a sphere measured from the center of the spawner block to your feet, so height counts as much as distance across. With several spawners, the place you want is where all of those spheres overlap. The calculator checks every block near your spawners and keeps the ones inside every sphere. Those show up in green on the map.

Each spawner puts its mobs within 4 blocks of it across and 1 block above or below, a 9 by 9 area 3 blocks tall. Those blocks are marked A on the map. Dig them out so the mobs have room to appear, and so you have somewhere to put the water that pushes them toward your collection point.

There is one more limit. A spawner stops when it counts 6 of its own mob in the 9 by 9 by 9 box around it. If the mobs pile up near the spawner, it shuts itself off, so the elevator and the kill chamber have to sit outside every spawner's box. The calculator only suggests elevator columns that stay clear of all of them, from the floor of the lowest spawn area up to the level where you stand.

Picking the spot

Usually hundreds or thousands of blocks are in range, so the calculator has to pick one. It looks first for spots with a clear elevator column right beside you, so the mobs end up at arm's reach. Among those, it takes the one that leaves the most room to spare on the farthest spawner. If none of the blocks around you work, it says so, and you'll need to carry the mobs farther out before bringing them back.

If no block is in range of every spawner, the spawners are too far apart for one AFK spot. The calculator tells you how far apart the farthest two are. Leave one out and try again.

Reading the map

The map is a top-down view of one Y level at a time. North is at the top. Use the slider or the Up and Down buttons to step through the layers, and AFK level to jump back to where you stand. Hover over a square to see its coordinates. Y marks the block your feet are in and the one above it for your head. E is the elevator column, and the numbered purple squares are the spawners.

Getting the coordinates in game

Open the debug screen with F3 and look straight at the spawner. The "Targeted Block" line on the right gives its coordinates. When you get to the AFK spot, stand on it and check that the "Block" line on the left matches what the calculator gave you.
