The challenge
The Great Race!, the December 2014 Minecraft Hardcore Challenge, was a race east. Host Michael Deering's objective: finish with the greatest positive X coordinate on the Z zero line, farther east than anyone else doing the challenge. Entrants showed their coordinates at the end of each episode, and each could kill one passive animal for a holiday meal.
The other rules were no exploring the world in another copy (the Nether was fine), no AFK crop growth, no sleeping in beds to skip the night, and everything on camera at normal speed. Each episode is one Minecraft day and night, in hardcore mode on Minecraft 1.8.1. The description planned nine episodes; five went up, between December 1 and December 15, 2014.
