The challenge
Nether Adventure, the March 2014 Minecraft Hardcore Challenge, gave each team one trip through a Nether portal. Gather whatever you can in the first episode, with no diamond mining and no overworld gathering after the 20-minute mark, then jump through at the end of it, board up the portal with cobblestone and never go back. After that, survive the ghasts and find a Nether fortress to set up a base.
The teams were picked with a randomizer on the GopherCraft server (the short Episode 0, listed below). Host Michael Deering's usual rules applied: no mods, no beds, no killing passive mobs without breeding replacements and nothing off camera, in hardcore mode on Minecraft 1.7.4. The seven episodes went up between March 3 and March 24, 2014.
