Day five of Nether Adventure starts in the fortress HQ with the usual roll call, and it goes wrong almost at once. Less than two minutes in, the chat reads "lostinthefort was slain by Skeleton." This is hardcore, so that is the end of lostinthefort's run. Team ScoOpBaLo is down to three: optimus1971, Scoti_Garbidis and Basket.
The most unsafe safety zone
The talk afterward explains the title. "I was in the little safety safety zone." "That was the most unsafe safety zone ever." Someone points out, "I told you I heard skeletons, no way to believe me." Then a dry line: "Well, I guess I don't have to stress about it anymore. Me being the first to die." The team asks if the voice on the call can stay on "making fun of us and stuff," and the answer is yes. A moment later the chat shows "lostinthefort left the game."
A tree room
The plan from day four goes ahead anyway. Walls go up around a side room for a "tree room," and dirt goes down "in a five by five." An oak sapling goes in with a torch beside it. How big does it need to be? Five by five, or seven by seven? Five tall or seven? Nobody is sure. Bone meal does not help: "I used all of our bone meal, nothing happened." There is also a worry that "this is all the cobble we have for the rest of the challenge."
One egg
Next comes Basket's egg, saved since day four. "Let's make a pen and we'll hatch the egg." A pen of nether brick goes up, Basket throws the egg, and nothing hatches on screen. "We had one egg. All that for one egg." A raw chicken in the team chest gets a puzzled "How did we get a raw chicken?" By now the base has a tree room that may never grow a tree and a pen with no chicken in it.
A clock, sort of
With spare redstone, someone suggests, "Let's make a clock, man." What gets built is a note block wired to a redstone torch and a repeater, a "random thumping note block." "That's our clock?" "What time is it?" "I don't know." Basket crafts a stone hoe, and the chat shows "BasketMC has just earned the achievement [Time to Farm!]"
Windows
Then a scare. Scoti_Garbidis is on fire on screen while someone yells, "I'm on fire! I'm dying!" Brown mushrooms get passed over: "Here, I got seven brown mushrooms." The cause comes out after: "Why did you open that up?" "Because I put windows in!" "Not a good idea!" One player was "down to three and a half hearts" when the fire started. No death line follows, but the mood slips: "We're going insane!"
Cauldrons
The last job is a test "to find out how many potions we can make." There is a mix-up over who is making the cauldron, so "we have two cauldrons now." Water goes into one. With about a minute left the team calls it, and one player says this is "a relatively safe spot to log back in."
Two players stand by the cauldron and the chests for the closing shot. "What a weird, horrible episode." "We miss you already." Three of the four end day five alive in the Nether, with lostinthefort's run over. The credits roll, and nothing comes after them.
