Basketopia City Planning: Team B.S. Server Episode 127

  • Published on

Episode 127 picks up right where the wall left off. The outer side of Basketopia's city wall still has one gap to close, and once that's done the inside of the wall can start. Basket is on the server alone.

Cobblestone out, stone brick in

First, a cleanup job. Some of the bottom layer went down in cobblestone, so Basket breaks those blocks out and swaps in stone brick, since "we're gonna build a big wall on top of that." Then it's back to counting: "one, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, nine, ten." Along one stretch the ground barely changes, so Basket keeps the top level instead of stepping it, which also means less falling and less food spent climbing.

The whole island

Basket pulls out a map to explain. "We have a big huge island, this is Basketopia, this whole island here," with the castle and the start of a town on it. The wall goes all the way around, about ten tall, and this is only the outside part. After it come the inside, the top and the battlements. One spot is "eventually a gate house," but for now it's just a couple of blocks.

Around the whole thing

The last segment dips down with the ground and climbs back up to meet the stretch built before. Then it's closed. "So now we have a wall going around the whole thing. You know, give or take."

That leaves Basket out of blocks. The trip back runs past the town to the Nether portal, down the tunnel and out to the iron farm, where the shulker box gets refilled with stone bricks. No big tour this time, since Basket has "given lots of tours recently."

Building the inside

The inner side has its own problem. The outside was built to about ten high, but the ground inside sits at different heights, so the two sides won't always match. Basket decides the inside may end up "a little bit taller than 10, so that the outside matches." Where possible the steps go up in threes. On one steep slope threes make it "too shallow," so Basket switches to twos.

There's no rush to get it perfect. "Lots of rough wall building, and then we'll clean it up later on." An arch will come through one section later, and where the wall runs against the water, Basket expects an archway to let small boats through with gates above it. For now both get filled in. The battlements may end up only on the outside.

Up to the tower

Near the end the inner wall reaches a corner and goes diagonal toward a tower. Part of the slope there climbs two blocks at a time, which would be hard to walk up, so Basket plans to stretch the slope out to one block at a time and add stairs. Near a cliff edge the wall might stay shorter. Then it's time to stop. Still to do: smooth it all out, finish the inside, build the top and add the battlements. The end card runs to the last frame with no gameplay after it.
