Secret Base, Basket Case: Hypermine Vanilla Season 1 Episode 4

  • Published on

Episode 4 of Hypermine Vanilla Season 1 goes underground, to a base Basket has been digging below Scoti's yard. "It's a big iron base," and the name is a pun to match: Basket Case. The job for this video is storage. Basket wants Jeb doors that sit flush with the wall and can be lined up side by side, and spends the episode building four of them. By the end the doors open on a pressure plate and there are chests behind them.

The way in

The entrance is the dirt hut on the lawn. There's a temporary beacon nearby, "not really going to be its permanent spot." Inside the hut, one chest is a trapped chest. Open it and it triggers some redstone, and a shaft with a ladder opens in the floor. "Oh, there's a secret. Come down here." A button closes it again. A tunnel also runs off toward the sewers, which still needs "a cool entrance."

Jeb doors, turned sideways

A normal Jeb door takes up the two spaces it opens plus two more on each side, so putting two side by side eats a lot of wall. Basket couldn't find a design that tiles, so worked one out in a creative world, open in another window. In this version the pistons work from the top and bottom instead of the sides, and the doors only need one block between them.

Sticky pistons go in first: some push toward the room, others push down from above. Then come the repeaters and redstone dust. Building it in survival is slower. "It's a lot harder to build this in survival." Then, partway through: "Oh, I'm not in creative." Iron goes wherever the redstone doesn't sit, with nicer blocks to come later.

Testing with a lever

A plain lever stands in for now. The top opens. The bottom doesn't open all the way, because the pistons retract in the wrong order. Basket changes one delay to match the creative version, and it works. "I'm not sure exactly why that thing I just changed mattered."

The second door goes in off camera. With all four built, the bottom of one sticks again. This time a repeater needs one more tick of delay, and that fixes it.

Pressure plate and flip-flop

The lever gets swapped for a pressure plate wired to a T flip-flop, with a redstone torch, two pistons and a block between them. Each step on the plate toggles it, and one line runs to the tops of the doors and one to the bottoms.

Double chests go in behind the doors. Glowstone is meant to light each chamber, but there isn't any yet, so the spots stay open. Basket wonders about moving the plate, since anyone working in the room might step on it by accident.

Where it ends

Some furnaces sit beside the chests, and the room could hold "some other setup" later. The next idea is a lava sphere in the middle of the base, which means gathering resources first. Basket climbs the ladder out, and the end cards follow.
