Small Rail Station Planning: Hypermine Vanilla S2 Episode 80

  • Published on

This episode runs about 52 minutes and opens on a card reading "Episode 80" and "Small Rail Station Planning." Most of it is in the creative world, finishing the plan for the new small rail station. The last stretch moves to the Hypermine server, where Basket starts clearing the spot for the real thing. Basket is the only player seen on the server.

Carts too close together

Last time, the two replacement carts came up so close together that both went the same way. Basket primes the line with a button, sends up two carts, and at first it looks fine ("so maybe it did work"). The real test fails: "it's still too close together." More repeaters go in, row after row, and the wiring gets confused enough that Basket stops to work out which block is powered. "I don't remember how I had it working a second ago."

A backup supply of chest carts

While the delays are torn apart, Basket adds a safety net. A tripwire hook sits in the stack of waiting carts. A chest, a hopper and a dispenser hold a stockpile of chest minecarts, and a clock releases them on a delay whenever the stack runs low. With a few carts on the tripwire, the clock stops. Take three away and it starts feeding more in.

The real problem

Back at the switch, one cart goes the right way and the next goes the wrong way. Tracing the line, Basket finds the signal powers the switch twice. "Aha, okay, I'm with you." Moving one block up a spot stops the second hit. With that fixed, most of the extra delay comes back out, down to a single repeater, and one cart goes each way. "So that actually is enough time. Great."

Then a full run: the engine gets two bedrock, the caboose gets 15 stone as caboose tokens, both head up top, and their replacements come in behind them. Cart requests also work their way through the bottom and come back up the chain.

The return path

One piece doesn't go anywhere yet: engines and cabooses coming back into the station. Basket brings that path down beside the existing rails, curves it under a block so carts pass under the hoppers and pick their items back up, and keeps it low enough to walk around. A test cart rolls all the way and drops down. "It did. Awesome."

Looking it over, Basket admits the emptying section sits lower than it needs to, so items climb a long way back up. Raising it would save glass and rail, but it stays for now. Basket also thinks out loud about a tutorial: the full thing would be "a very long tutorial," so maybe one video per little machine.

Back on the server

Then it's over to the server, starting inside the current small rail station, where everything is packed so tight "you can't even walk through here."

Basket sleeps off the night and the rain, rides the rails, looks in on the shops, grabs redstone and rail, and heads out on foot past the bridge. Someone has left a beacon right in the rail path on the bridge, so Basket leaves it alone. Finishing that rail line so it's easier to get out there may come next.

Clearing the build spot

At the site, Basket puts on Feather Falling boots and works down a shaft, breaking chests on the way and catching the spilled items in new ones. "I did overkill on the chest." There won't be much building today, but by the end the spot is mostly clear. "So this is the build spot." The end card follows the gameplay, with no clip after it.
