Rail Station Inbound Cart Sorting System: Hypermine Vanilla S2 Episode 107

  • Published on

This episode runs about 49 minutes and opens on a card reading "Episode 107" and "Rail Station Inbound Cart Sorting System." It's the last episode in the playlist. Basket is back in the station hole with the creative-world blueprint in the picture-in-picture window. The engine and caboose get pulled out of an arriving train near the top. "Everything else goes down," and that's today's job. When a viewer asks who's building with Basket: "So this one is just me."

What the sorter has to do

Basket gives the "long very fast talk version." When a train arrives, it kicks the rider out and sorts the cars. Engines and cabooses go one way. A chest minecart can carry a load of wood or cobblestone, so any chest cart with items in it gets sent up to the top. Empty chest carts and plain passenger carts each need their own line too.

Carts with a load

The first line slopes down, runs flat for three rails and angles back up. Basket builds the detector from the bottom: a rail block with no rail on top, a hopper pointing into it, and a comparator reading the hopper. The first try goes on the wrong side of the block and has to come out. "Why is this wrong?"

Then the junction defaults the wrong way. Basket swaps a repeater for a block and a redstone torch, which flips the signal without adding delay. "This is a good lesson."

The test cart goes by and nothing happens. "Oh that didn't work." On the next try the junction flicks over for a moment. The cart drops off one item to show it's loaded, gets turned off the main line, then picks the same item back up on its way to the top of the build.

Empty carts get some dirt

The second check is trickier. Basket goes down for cobblestone and crafts three droppers. This junction comes out backward too, "a great example of having to sort of reverse from the design in the picture in picture," and gets the same fix.

The droppers feed a hopper with a furnace on top "because we want less lag." A short clock sends items back up into the droppers. An empty chest cart gets handed a piece of dirt, drops it off and turns down its own line. One rail turns out to be powered only by the redstone under it, so Basket powers it from a separate block with a lever.

Passenger carts go up

Whatever is left is a passenger cart. That line climbs to the top, where cactus will eventually break the carts so dispensers can hand out new ones. Basket runs out of regular rail ("I forgot") and crafts two stacks.

The empty chest carts are headed for a tall stack of their own, waiting to be requested again. They can't go to cactus, since breaking one splits the chest from the minecart. Rails aren't a spot mobs can spawn on, but Basket lights it all up anyway.

Getting the tokens back

The engine and caboose drop their tokens into hoppers on the way in, and those can't be lost. Their line runs into a solid wall, drops straight down and passes under two hoppers that hand the items back. Basket puts furnaces on top of the hoppers and explains why: a hopper with a furnace above it has less to check, and a dropper would get in the way of nearby redstone.

"We built the arriving train sorting system in the Port Hypermine North rail station." One more piece, a return path up to a rail built earlier, waits for next time. The scaffolding mostly stays for now.
