Shortcuts: Untold Stories 3 Episode 60

Corrosion has a bottom, and they would like to see it without walking every broken bridge on the way. So this episode is mostly shortcuts, some of them the map's and some of them their own.

Along the wall

Do they keep doing it the slow way, getting every chest, or skip ahead? The idea is to water bucket down one corner and carve a path along the wall, which is safer than the open bridges. One of them nervously decides when to go. It turns up another path, a ladder going up that might be a shortcut, and the usual suspicion: watch for a trap, there's a string right at the top.

The second emerald

The path connects across to an emerald they could see but not reach. They build a slab bridge with handrails over to it, splitting the work, one on each side. On the other side a chest floats above the spot as if to lead you there, and then you realize there is an emerald in there too. It goes in a chest for safekeeping, and the slab bridge becomes their main way back and forth.

That makes two emeralds from this level, and there are probably only four. Maybe they can just get the emeralds and the wool and skip the rest of this scary area.

Digging down

Now they want to see the path way down at the bottom. Instead of hunting for the intended way, they dig straight down and line the shaft with ladders, one making ladders and throwing them to the other. This is not within the spirit of the game, someone says. It's not against the rules, the other answers; that's the difference between an adventure map and a CTM. The fun path would be to run along the bridges and fall off.

There is obsidian everywhere, a pickaxe breaks, the ladders run low, and it becomes the digging episode. Then, at the bottom: a button that says ladder up. Push it and ladders appear. If they had water bucketed down, they could have just used that. You were a curious monkey, it happens.

The lava floor

The bottom floor is lava with walkways over it, and ghast spawners, blaze spawners and skeleton spawners scattered around, some in the middle of the bridges. One of them pours water on the lava under the bridge while the other builds a path. A blaze spawner goes down. Creepers drop in, they wonder whether a direct hit can break even slabs, and someone ends up on one heart, on fire, eating.

Then the chat reads Scoti_Garbidis was blown up by Creeper, right by the blaze room, as he was finishing a little bridge. A lot of his stuff survives, though some of it burst into the lava. A treasure chest nearby holds something called the Razor Chopper.

Three ladders up

Two creeper spawners turn up by digging, and they guess the ones that got Scoti were exactly where they were supposed to be. There are at least three ladders going up from this floor, which seems strange, so the theory is that one of them has a hidden cubby partway up. Witches, ghasts and skeletons keep things busy while they build paths across, jumping gaps one block wide. Then they call it, to regroup and be friends.
