Gray Wool: Untold Stories 3 Episode 81

They should have made a waypoint. Now they need to get back up there and grab their stuff before it despawns, otherwise they're going to be sad. It turns out there isn't much left to grab, and the wool ends up somewhere nobody expected.

Not much left on the floor

There were a lot of explosions, so whatever survived is probably scattered on the outside where it isn't safe. One of them gets down to half a heart from a creeper on the way. What they find is thin: some records, a pickaxe, a couple of swords. A lot of it seems to have blown up. The death message said creeper, so maybe two creepers, a chain reaction. One of them lost his cool axe along with everything else, and nobody has a bow.

There is one piece of good news. The emerald is safe. One of them was smart and put it in a chest, and he'd like to know if the other is proud of him. He is.

They do have a foothold now, the ladder still goes up, and the creeper spawners up there are gone. But there's no wood, so no bow, and no planks for a bed. A bow does turn up, plus 48 arrows. The honeypot chest is empty apart from some bones, which starts a short debate about whether bone blocks exist in this version.

Go back and gear up

Leather armor and pressing on is one option. The other is the long run back for real gear, about ten minutes every time someone dies. They pick the run. When the episode picks back up, they've enchanted a bunch of things to catch everybody up, and they're back.

Up top, there's a witch spawner, and in the middle of the platform a charged creeper spawner and a ghast spawner. Figuring out what to do with them costs Scoti. The chat logs him falling from a high place, blown up by Creeper, and blown up by Super_Creeper. It was something like seven creepers, and all his stuff is gone, every last bit. Finding where he died is its own puzzle, like an M.C. Escher drawing where you can't tell which platform is which.

You were meant to fall down

The answer was on a sign the whole time: you were meant to fall down. The way on is down past the charged creeper spawner and the ghast spawner. A pillar and a bridge go all the way down, and Basket goes. There's water at the bottom, which is nice. Then: yay, gray wool, you got it.

Up the water stream

Getting out is harder. The only way back is a long, slow swim up a water stream inside the barrier corridor, and a charged creeper could still spawn in the dark parts of that tunnel. So the plan is torches along the inside of the wall next to the spawner. Twice the stream breaks under him, once from a torch in the wrong spot, and Basket slides back down. Quit it, Scotty. A block underneath fixes it, and he keeps climbing.

At the end Scoti offers his summary: good job, Basket, he did everything he could to impede the victory, and Basket still succeeded. They'll have a lot to celebrate next time.
