The challenge
The Max Writer Challenge, the August 2014 Minecraft Hardcore Challenge, kept everyone in the desert. The objective from host Michael Deering: stay in the desert biome (the Nether is allowed) and build a village from scratch, in a world generated with structures turned off, so there are no villages to borrow from.
The rules were no eating meat, no leaving the biome, no AFK crop growth, no exploring the world in another copy, and no speedups or off-camera play, in hardcore mode on Minecraft 1.7.10. The nine episodes went up between August 1 and August 29, 2014.
