Day two of the Max Writer Challenge, and Basket is still alone in the desert with one apple to eat. The goal for the month is a village built from scratch, but first comes food, and Basket's answer to that is the Nether. "My goal is to get to the Nether, um, for food." The plan is to head down and find lava.
A sapling by the river
Up top in the daylight, Basket takes a quick look around. "So just desert." There's water to grab from the river, and a sapling by the bank gets a torch beside it in the hope that it grows. Back down in the dug-out base, five iron is enough for an iron pickaxe, and Basket makes a bowl too, "while I'm thinking about it so I don't screw it up." The crafting table comes along, because supplies are thin. The rules allow no speedups: "Otherwise I would probably do that for you guys, because I'm sure this digging down here won't be the most interesting thing in the world."
A pit stop at the ravine
Basket stair-steps down, listening for lava and trying not to burn through torches. "I guess the other option is I could have stayed on the surface and tried to fight monsters. For some reason I feel like that wouldn't end up very well." Then a cave sound, and "oh, a ravine. Look at that. So we might use this as a little food pit stop." There's a zombie and a skeleton down there. Basket opens a narrow tunnel, lets a zombie walk up it and kills it with the stone sword for its rotten flesh, then seals the opening: "I just don't want a baby zombie to come after me."
Not much of a lake
At what Basket calls "my usual spot to find lava," the tunnel turns up redstone ("I don't care about you") and some gold worth grabbing. The lava sounds keep coming, but Basket has a worry. "I'm a little nervous that it's just going to be one little tiny spot, and what I need is a lake." It is a little spot.
Basket pushes on into the dark, hears lava again, then loses it. "I don't hear it anymore. I was hearing it, right? I'm not crazy, right?" With the torches nearly gone, Basket blocks off the tunnel, picks up some iron passed on the way, and heads back for more wood and torches.
Bones for the tree
On the way up there's a skeleton, and Basket tries to bait it closer for bones. "Yes, give me your bones, I want your tree." It won't come, and Basket gives up on that. Back at base, the news isn't good: "My tree didn't grow. Stupid tree." Basket smelts the gold, makes two furnaces out of all that cobblestone, and holds on to the iron needed "for the flint and steel." There's plenty of iron now. Food is the problem.
Two creepers at sunrise
It's morning when Basket climbs out. "Oh good, that tree grew. And there are no bad guys." There's rotten flesh lying on the sand to pick up, and then a creeper, which Basket kills with the sword. "Alright, good, we've got some gunpowder."
Basket eats some of the flesh, and the hunger bar turns green. Then a second creeper walks right up and explodes, blowing a hole in the sand and taking a couple of hearts. "Oh god. That was exciting."
Basket is alive on the morning of day three, eating rotten flesh to heal and still low on food. The plan for next time is to chop down the tree that grew and see if it drops another apple. The credits roll after that, with no gameplay after them.
