Filling the Elevator: MHC Max Writer Challenge Episode 8

  • Published on

Day eight of the Max Writer Challenge opens on Basket in third person, standing by the spawner in the workshop under the desert, next to the chests and the crafting table. This is the second-to-last episode, and there is still not a single villager. The recording buddy is on the voice call again, and only Basket's screen is in the video.

Water for the elevator

The first job is the water elevator, and Basket can't remember whether the signs go all the way up yet. On the call, the recording buddy has watched the last episode and says the signs already reach the top. What's missing is the water.

So Basket grabs buckets and starts hauling. "I'm doing it with four buckets, so hopefully, because I was trying to minimize my going up and down time." It takes several trips up and down the dark shaft, pouring water in a section at a time.

Back on the surface

At the top, the yard inside the cobblestone wall looks like a farm now. The saplings have grown into trees, with torches around them on the sand. Basket chops one down for wood, crafts a stack of sandstone, and watches the sun drop toward the horizon.

A shaft full of doors

Next comes a new hole. Basket digs a narrow shaft straight down through the sand, placing torches on the way, while loose sand keeps falling in. Sandstone goes in along the walls. Then Basket crafts a batch of wooden doors and sets them into the shaft, one after another.

A fence for zombies

By the time Basket climbs back out, it's night. "Let's make a little bit more wall, and we'll try and get some dudes trapped inside there." The fence runs out, so Basket crafts more from wood: "I guess we'll just use wood." A small ring of fence goes up around a hole in the sand, with a torch on top. Then it's back to the elevator and down: "Going down. Weeee."

Still regular zombies

In the workshop, Basket tunnels through the stone to bring the far cells closer: "Now I have to move those other three closer to the other spot." The cells aren't working yet. "Man, they're not even spawning in these little cavey holes, mainly because I didn't darken them up." Once that's fixed, zombies show up, and Basket looks each one over before swinging the diamond sword. They're all regular zombies, so they all die. Basket checks the chest where the golden apple is stored and eats rotten flesh between fights.

The pieces are all there, just not the villagers: "I have all kinds of chamber setup. I just need to cure two guys. I have all the supplies."

The day ends where it started, with Basket in third person by the spawner, alive. Then the credits roll, and nothing plays after them.
