The challenge
Underground, the February 2014 Minecraft Hardcore Challenge, had a simple objective from host Michael Deering: gather resources above ground on the first day, then go underground once it gets dark and stay there for the rest of the challenge. Stay alive, and do cool things.
Players on the GopherCraft server picked the teams with a randomizer (the short Episode 0, listed below). The rules were no mods, no beds, no killing passive mobs without breeding replacements, and nothing off camera, in hardcore mode on Minecraft 1.7.4. The eight episodes went up between February 3 and February 28, 2014.
