Day three of Underground, Michael Deering's February 2014 challenge, starts the way day two ended: with the clock. "Who has my clock?" "No, this is the one Basket made for me." Team MaBaSteeSco is still deep under the GopherCraft map, in the cavern at the bottom of the creeper shaft, and by the clock it's just after morning. "We can go till the next morning, like every other hardcore challenge."
Better homes and lava
The first job is deciding where to live. One idea is to build platforms in the big open cavern, "with like ladders connecting them." Someone asks, "are we gonna be the lava home people?" Another player would rather do what they always do: "I like our safe rooms that we build, man." The ledges overhead worry people too, since something could "plop down and surprise us." A small dirt platform goes up for trees. "I'm voting against whatever this poop island is that somebody just made." "I made it. It's for trees."
Basket spends a while in the crafting grid, and the chat shows three achievements for BasketMC in a row: Benchmarking, Time to Mine! and Getting an Upgrade.
Bingo, spawner
Then the voice chat lights up. "Bingo. Spawner." "Tell me it's skeleton." "No, it's zombie. And there's like 80 zombies in here." Basket follows a tunnel toward the noise and drops into a mossy cobblestone room with a spawner in the middle and chests along the walls, and the zombies come straight at the team. They fight it out around the cage, then open the chests. The tooltips show two music discs, "13" and "cat." Somebody shouts "name tag" and wants a pet: "Let's make a buddy." The room settles it. "This is definitely our home now." Basket gets some credit for it: "You win, Basket."
Lag and a second spawner
Not everyone's game is happy. "I'm getting tons of lag. I'm gonna pull all the way out of Minecraft and reload it." The chat shows Max_Writer leaving and joining the game several times over about a minute. Meanwhile more zombies keep coming, and the team pushes into the caves around the room. "This must be like all the zombies on the surface that have been trying to get to us."
Then a second find: "Another spawner." It's close enough to the first that the team starts talking about a "dual spawner" and the grinder it could make. They gather around the new cage and go through its chests.
No coordinates
With two spawners this close, nobody wants to give the spot away. "Coordinates will kill you!" "I'm not showing mine." There might even be a third spawner, but "I think the third one is probably too far."
Run, run, run
Near the end, Basket heads down a narrow tunnel and a creeper walks right up it. "Oh, God! Get away! Run." There's a burst of white smoke right in front of Basket. "I just see you bouncing back." No death line shows in the chat. Max_Writer earns the Time to Strike! achievement around the same time.
To find the spot again, Basket takes a screenshot rather than showing coordinates on camera, and the chat confirms it saved. "Right now we have a clear path between spawners, guys." Then the clock does its job: "Guys, it's morning. We need to stop." All four end day three alive underground, and no death line or death screen shows anywhere in the episode. The end card follows, with nothing after it.
