Ice Road: Aftermath S1 Episode 5

  • Published on

The title card reads "Minecraft Aftermath Let's Play S1E05 with BasketMC." Basket logs back in after a few days away and finds the hideout changed. Part of it has been dug out, and "it turns out that somebody actually found my hidey hole." Nothing seems to be missing. A sign by the farm reads "Home of BasketMC Please be kind." "I was under the impression that it was a cruel world. But I guess people around here might be nice."

Packing light

Basket's plan for this episode is to go out and find people. That means leaving most things at home "in case I get killed right away": the armor comes off, and there are only seven arrows anyway. The new clock goes along, though Basket isn't sure what it's for yet: "the clock I think is a communication device, but I don't really know how that works." It's raining, so Basket waits it out. Outside on the hillside, a death sign for normalfreak1 gives the "cause of death: Slipped & fell."

The water tower

Across the sand stands a strange structure with water pouring down it. Basket has wondered about it since the first login, climbs up with only a melon in hand, and finds the top "pretty abandoned actually." One bucket of water becomes a spring, and Basket plants melons up there for whoever comes next. The view is good. "Oh, you can see my base."

Next is a building full of bookshelves and empty chests. Two skeletons are waiting inside, and Basket left the armor at home. Out in the rain, the chat says Quad14 is having a rough night: "Quad14 slipped from an edge." and then "A creeper blasted Quad14!"

A portal by the branch mine

Back at base Basket gears up, heads down to a big cave near the branch mine and uses the water bucket to turn lava into obsidian for a new Nether portal. The diamond pick stays behind "just in case I die right away when I go through." The other side is somebody else's area, with a path already laid. "I heard there's an ice road that goes through the nether."

Learning the Ice Road

It's a long stone-brick tunnel with a strip of ice down the middle. At first nothing happens. Then Basket gets it: "you have to sprint and then do it." "Whoa! That works. That's crazy." The road shoots past signs and portals that lead up to other people's places, one marked "Corporation."

Basket notes coordinates on the way and hides them from viewers. The chat shows "Senior_Lo joined," though nobody turns up in person. Off the road, past pigmen that leave Basket alone, there's glowstone over a lava lake, and Basket breaks off a little.

Nobody home

Each exit brings up a new base. Basket walks in with a melon held out, because "if I approach people with a melon in my hand, they'll trust me more." It never gets tested. One town has a well-lit building full of chests, but "all their stuff is gone at least." Another has a nice-looking place with chairs. "Nobody's around."

A zombie pigman holding a gold sword stands in the corner of a dim stone-brick room

The last company Basket finds is a zombie pigman in a dim stone room. "That's the creepiest thing I've ever seen in my life." The end card comes up soon after, with no gameplay after it.
