Enchanting Base: Aftermath S1 Episode 4

  • Published on

The title card reads "S1E04, Enchanting Base." Basket opens at the bottom of a new ladder shaft, which happened to break into "the abandoned mine shaft that's under here, just at the right point where I could find some goodies." There's a chest down there worth showing off. There are also spiders, by the sound of it, so Basket seals the hole for now. "We'll investigate that later."

Melons, mostly

Back up in the safe house, Basket digs a farm into the wall, runs water along it from the infinite spring, and plants melon and pumpkin seeds. Pumpkins lose out. Without chickens around, "pumpkins don't really have a lot of purpose," so most of the plot goes to melons. Some of it might get hidden too, "in case I get ransacked."

The chat keeps the server in view while Basket farms: "A creeper blasted aarpcard!" and a newcomer's arrival, "[Server] a new survivor, xXChrisxCr0ssXx, has appeared in the wastelands..."

Iron, diamonds and a fake trail

Off camera, the mining has paid off. "I have a full suit of iron armor. I finally found some diamonds and I made a clock." The clock was meant for the wall, but an item frame needs leather, so it stays in the inventory. There's also a second monster lure by the door, "in case there's a monster outside the door I can lure him over here and kill him."

Basket has thought about what happens if someone finds the branch mines. There's now "sort of a misdirect tunnel," so an intruder ends up somewhere that looks like a small base instead of the real one. The branch mines go deeper rather than wider, so there's less area "for people to end up running into my stuff."

A second base just for enchanting

Once Basket has the obsidian, the enchanting table gets crafted. It doesn't go in the safe house. The reasoning: some of the entrances have shown up on video, so "in case somebody somehow finds that out," the enchanting room should be somewhere else. "That takes a little longer to set up than the stuff that's in here."

The new spot is "my little claustrophobic second base." With the bookshelves on hand, Basket can reach level 16 or 17 and spends it on a fresh iron sword. "Looting, interesting." That one becomes the backup sword.

More books, and a spawner

More levels need more bookshelves, so Basket heads back to a city building. Inside are zombies, stairs and one floor with "a lot of books. I don't mind if I do." It's daytime and quiet, and the roof turns up nothing. "Maybe it's cleared out already."

On the way down a zombie comes wading through a flooded room. "So, there must be a spawner in here somewhere." There is. "Now I have a zombie spawner that I could turn into an experience grinder, potentially." For now it stays as it is, lit up, with the idea saved for later.

Level one on everything

Back in the second base, Basket crafts more bookshelves, then puts the experience left over into level-one enchants: Protection on the iron armor, Blast Protection on one piece, and Knockback on an iron sword. "I used up all my wood," so there's no chest for the spare books, and they come along.

Basket ends the episode in the safe house with a change of plan. The last few episodes were quiet, so next comes clearing spawners, securing buildings and checking out "a platform that was way up in the air" that might be somebody's base. "It's not about hiding and just sitting inside of a cave every episode." The end card runs to the close of the video, with no gameplay after it.
