Roof Approach: Aftermath S1 Episode 12

  • Published on

The title card reads "S1E12," with on-screen credits "with Precisi" and "with cainadai." It picks up right where the last episode stopped, in the valley beside the building the YouTube description calls the hospital. There are "fewer creepers than there were before," Precisi still has a back full of arrows, and the chat is still logging deaths: "Precisi was shot by a skeleton." "A creeper blasted Precisi!"

Zombie central

The valley is a mess. One voice on the call is thrilled: "Yes! Diamond boots! Got my magic boots!" Then: "I'm just going to throw my boots in a chest, I don't want to lose those." A creeper "totally took out our little ledge by our little safe house." Someone confesses to filling in a little hole on the way up, "and then zombies started spilling through." The hole was there on purpose: "Yeah, it keeps things out." Then: "Oh, there's creepers in the windows." "This hospital is very dangerous. Zombie central."

The group changes plans. "I think the roof approach is going to work much better." Back in their own building there's a chest stop, with a Potion of Fire Resistance on the tooltip, and a confession from the call: "I was trying not to die because I was carrying Basket's jukebox." Then it's out at night, along a narrow ledge on the side of the building.

The hospital roof is a field of pale tiles with holes in it. Basket finds one. "Oh my god! There's a hole in the roof." On the call: "They're coming up the stairs." The chat starts filling with a new name: "BasketMC was overwhelmed by zombies!" "A creeper blasted BasketMC!" It keeps going, with a fall, a skeleton and more zombies. The voices try to track the dropped gear: "My stuff is on the top of the tree." "Those jerks, they stole all my blocks." "Yeah, the zombies picked up all your stuff." Someone picks up a glowing diamond pickaxe, "I assume it was yours," and the good news comes through on the call: "I got the jukebox and the music disc." "We'll have music to die to."

Morning on the roof

When the sun comes up, the zombies that made it onto the roof start to burn. Their drops are worth having. Basket's inventory now holds a Golden Helmet with Aqua Affinity I, Iron Leggings with Protection I and an Iron Sword with Sharpness I. "Zombie drop probably."

Even burning, they still win one more round. "BasketMC fell to the hunger of the horde!" By now the roof is dotted with grave signs, all saying the same thing: "BasketMC RIP 06/21/2013 cause of death: Zombie." Later on the call: "Let it not be said you didn't leave your mark on the landscape."

Keeping the spawners

The jukebox goes up on the roof, and the chat shows "Now playing: C418 - mall." "Protect the music! We cannot lose our culture with the zombie apocalypse." Not every spawner has to go. There are two skeleton spawners side by side, and a voice has plans for them: "Wouldn't it be cool to have, like, infinite arrows?" Another plan: "I'm gonna let a few zombies up so we can let them die in the sun." "It'll work great right until the creeper comes up."

The method for the rest gets talked through: break open a hole, throw down a torch, close it up, and work across the building from the far corner, one room at a time. With "48 torches" and dusk coming, the episode ends on the roof: "Ready. I just need a sword." There is no gameplay after the end card.
