BasketMC

Quartz: Aftermath S1 Episode 17

  • Published on

The title card reads "S1E17," with on-screen credits "with Precisi" and "with cainadai." Basket opens alone in the spawner building cleared over the last two episodes, with an update: the floors are gone and torches sit around each spawner, but "every now and then some guy will spawn and cause some havoc."

The plan for the spawners

The building has zombie and creeper spawners, and Basket wants them kept apart. The idea is to "make a little box around them and then funnel them into a single stream." Creepers would drop "directly into a hopper" so the gunpowder collects itself, and zombies would go through a falling trap, come back up on water and land in a chamber where Basket can finish them off.

A visitor in chat

Then the chat lights up. "Leinear: Hi Basket!" Basket answers "Heyas," but out loud admits, "I don't recognize that name." Leinear offers help ("o-o need help?"), and Basket types back "no, thanks though. doing well" and explains: "I'm working on a zombie xp grinder + gunpowder harvester." Leinear turns up in person, notes "I met her and Cain long time ago," and signs off with "If you need help I'm seriously close by." An edited-in note clears things up: "It turns out Leinear was mentioned in the Friendly list, I just forgot :D"

Later, the boxes are built. "I decided instead of doing big cobblestone boxes, I'm doing everything in glass so I can see everything." There's a sweet spot where the most spawners turn on, but it isn't "perfected" yet, with zombies standing where they shouldn't.

The guest house

Precisi and cainadai are on the voice call now. "You guys built a guest house, I think?" "We did." On the call, Leinear gets a good word too, as someone who helps the group out "quite a bit." The guest house has carpet, a fireplace, chests of food and a garden, and a guest book that reads "Welcome to our home! Residents include: Cainadai, Precisi, BasketMC, Nightsocko... We are willing to share what we have. If you need things just ask."

At the same time, the chat shows "Incoming call from CuddleSmash, pickup a smartphone to answer." CuddleSmash asks, "Do you know much about the lore of the server?" and says "I know of two very historical places on the server." Basket has to type an apology: "distracted on voice chat with Precisi and cainadai." Then a strange noise rolls in. "Somebody's making a wither, I think."

A sign and an arrow

Before the Nether, there's a tour. A ring of sugar cane stands over a sign hailing "the great sugar cane fairy," and the story on the call is that any sugar cane "out in the wild" traces back to one player who traveled "for many, many moons" to find it.

Basket enchants an iron sword (the tooltip says Sharpness II) and swaps into junkier armor for the trip. Then the chat reads "Someone killed BasketMC with Arrow!" "Oh, I hope my bed works... It does." A room of heads on posts gets a new one set "front and center," and someone on the call asks, "Is that what I look like?"

A quartz base in the Nether

Through a portal and down a tunnel sits somebody's base, built in white quartz, with an enchanting room, rows of brewing stands, a nether wart patch and, by the sound of it, "a little chicken farm." An old sign says "06/30/2013 Anyone still here? -Precisi." "I'm gonna give it a couple days, and then I'm gonna loot it." Basket glitches into a wall and starts suffocating ("I'm actually suffocating"), so it's disconnect, reconnect, and back to the tour.

The next plan is to cure some zombie villagers "from across the street." The catch is getting them home: "Oh, so somebody has to be the bait." The episode ends on the end card, with no gameplay after it.
