Finding a Home: Aftermath S2 Episode 2

  • Published on

The video opens on an "Aftermath Stream Archive" card that reads "Finding a Home." This is a weekend stream on the Aftermath server, still the ruined city on Minecraft 1.8.8. Basket logs back in where the last episode ended, in the street near 0,0, and finds a surprise waiting.

A chest full of gifts

Someone has seen the first video. A chest sits right where Basket logged off, with a sign on it: "Hi BasketMC, loved your vid! happy surviving! -nappy0227." It's packed with food and gear, including "a super-duper bow," and Basket's own chat line sums it up: "nappy gave me bread :)"

Then Macecraft31 walks up in diamond armor. "saw your video," the chat reads, and "brought you some surplus." Macecraft31 asks whether Basket has a phone yet. Basket does: a Vibe 6 that "can call other survivors" but needs to be in range of a cell tower. Basket says thanks, sorts the loot and heads away from spawn, where most buildings are already picked over.

A long night and a charged creeper

Night falls in an office building with an elevator shaft. Basket blocks the doors, but the zombies keep at them. "That baby hit me through the door. What a jerk." Basket clears the building floor by floor, picking up whatever might help with "hidden base redstone stuff" later.

Then the creepers come, and one of them is glowing. "Oh my god, charge creeper!" Basket backs off and gets through it. At daylight Basket heads on down the road, looting small houses along the way.

A house in the cul-de-sac

Basket finds a little cul-de-sac with houses nobody seems to have looted. "So we're going to call dibs on this house, and this is our base for now." Basket sets a bed, fills a chest with spare food and puts up a sign.

The neighbors come with problems. The house next door has a creeper spawner in its basement. Basket's own house turns out to be a duplex, and the other half has a zombie spawner. "That's probably why there's so many zombies." The looting is good, though. One chest holds a Radio Transmitter that "transmits radio messages," another a Block of Diamond. In a building with old death messages Basket dates to "February," there's a sword waiting: "Diamond sword. Don't mind if I do." One shovel turns out to be an Interrogation Spade with Looting X and a "chance to drop a gold ingot when hitting a player."

Company at the base

SPuntte shows up in person. "It's a wild SP!" Basket points to the food chests and the stuff in the basement. In the chat, SPuntte asks "need sugarcane?" and reports "that house is patched and lit up" and "so it could work as a safehouse."

DayTimeGaming is on the server too, but chat is ranged, and from that far away their messages arrive as scrambled letters. Then the chat reads "DayTimeGaming was axed a question by a Skeleton," and a moment later DayTimeGaming is back on the server. Somewhere along the way Basket loses the diamond sword "with a creeper incident."

A garden before logging off

With the stream almost out of time, Basket chops down trees next to the house and tills a few rows next to some water for a garden. The plan is to carry the best loot, leave some iron and the transmitters in the chests for SPuntte, and log out safely inside. The credits run to the end of the video with no gameplay after them.
