The video opens on a card that reads "Aftermath VOD 2016-07-13, Winter Wonderland." This is the first part of a long evening stream, and it starts on a brand new Aftermath map. Basket takes the lobby's PvP option and drops straight into trouble. "Okay. So it's snowing. And I'm in a pit."
A city under the snow
Basket climbs out onto a city buried in snow. There are no leaf blocks anywhere. The treetops are blue ice, and the trees sit at the bottom of deep holes where the snow piled up around them. Other players are on a voice call with Basket, and one of them sums it up: winter "has come." The last map was flooded, and this one is "brighter than underwater."
The join messages show who came along: The_RedGear, Nemsun, Runwyld, Lord_Kaos and DrMarko9 each "has joined the wasteland," and Wolfstorm is on too. This is the chaos PvP world, where "anything goes" and a base can be robbed.
Learning the rules
Basket punches some wood, makes a crafting table, and says it plainly: "let me make my sword first and then I will kill you." The zombies are everywhere already. The rules come out over the call a bit at a time. Chests hold loot, but once they're looted "they're gone." Chat in the game only reaches nearby players, and exclamation points carry it farther at the cost of hunger. Then, at about five minutes, the first death of the night shows up in chat: "A Zombie ate Wolfstorm's brain!"
A chest in a dark building gives up an enchanted book of Feather Falling II and a written book called "Entry of Life."
Three deaths
It goes downhill fast. The chat reads "BasketMC was bitten by Spider," and Basket wakes up "in an unfamiliar place," with no bed spawn set. Back outside, a new line appears: "You got infected. Type /help infection for more infos." Basket tries the shouting trick and types "hi" with a row of exclamation points. Then a creeper and a zombie close in across the snow, and the chat reads "A Zombie ate BasketMC's brain!"
A third death comes a couple of minutes later in a dark building, with no cause in chat. Somebody on the call later blames their own infection on "eating too much zombie flesh."
Everyone else dies too
Basket isn't alone in this. Over the next ten minutes the chat logs "Nemsun's corpse has joined the horde," the same for Lord_Kaos, and "A Zombie ate DrMarko9's brain!" The_RedGear "fell to the hunger of the horde," then "slipped from a ledge," then "just found out what goes bump in the night." Runwyld's brain gets eaten too.
Basket keeps moving across the snow with an axe. The call talks about why the map looks like this: the snow sits many blocks deep over the old streets, and some holes drop into the sewers below. A zombie comes running straight down the street.
The edge of the map
Near the end the talk turns to the map's border, where "the zombies just walk straight through the border at you." Someone laughs that "the horde's coming to get me." The video stops there, and the credits run to the end with no gameplay after them. The stream picks up in the next part.
