Rail Station Building: Hypermine Vanilla S2 Episode 8

  • Published on

This stream archive is about an hour long, and this time the work happens on the Hypermine server itself, with two short trips into Basket's creative world to show off the test builds. The job is the hidden part of the Port Hypermine South rail station: the chute that carries destination tokens from the droppers down to the train's first cart. There is no title card. TOLoneWolf2 is online the whole time, waving hello in chat at the start and leaving the game near the end.

Repairs at the gold farm

The stream opens at the gold farm. Basket types "can I repair my things?", TOLoneWolf2 answers "yes", and Basket stands in the right spot to soak up XP and mend a couple of picks. The farm works by shooting one mob to make the whole crowd angry, so they run down, fall and die. TOLoneWolf2 is nearby at a sign reading "Flesh Trading Station", "just trading in the flesh." Then Basket heads back to town and drops some spare picks off in a junk pile.

A new plan for the chute

Under the south station sits a grid of droppers, the refill hoppers, and furnaces on top that are supposed to cut down on hopper lag. Press a destination button upstairs and the slime blocks push down onto one of four lines, and those droppers spit out tokens. Basket had started building four separate chutes, then decided there was "no reason I have to keep these separate." The new plan is one layer of ice with water on it to push everything to one side.

That needs ice, and there's no ice farm yet. In chat, TOLoneWolf2 says "i have a few stacks of ice tho," then "i have 7 stacks." Basket asks for "12x8 roughly." Somewhere in between, TOLoneWolf2 falls from a high place and reports "for some reason i died on a slime block."

The tour upstairs

Upstairs, Basket walks through how the station will work. Each button sits under a sign like "Set Destination: Basket Station" or "Set Destination: Iron Farm." The first cart, the engine, carries tokens telling each intersection which way to turn. Passenger or freight carts follow, and the last cart, the caboose, carries tokens that reset the intersections behind it. This station only has four destination buttons, and Basket calls it "a small build compared to what I'm going to be working on after that."

A quick hop into the creative world shows the iron block version: a line that pulls off the engine or caboose, a sorter for full and empty chest minecarts, and the footprint of the main station, with a freight yard planned underneath.

Ice, water and bones

Back on the server, Basket walks up to TOLoneWolf2's base on the mountain, collects the ice ("thanks! :D", "np") and starts testing. A torch set next to the ice melts it ("well that sucks"), so the lighting has to stay back. Water source blocks refuse to behave, but once the water is flowing Basket loads bones into the dispensers and presses the first destination button. "So we have three bones, so that works out." Packed ice, which doesn't melt, comes up as the better choice for future stations, with an ice spikes biome already found.

The rest is fiddly. Basket miscounts the length of the run, moves the drop, and works out that the ladder spot will need to be solid so it doesn't catch items. Cobblestone marks the temporary blocks.

Launch lines

A second creative world visit shows repeater locking, which splits a train into single carts as it rolls into the freight yard. Back at the station, Basket realizes the return line in the design is "too compact" and will need slabs, puts up scaffolding, and starts on the redstone for the launch lines. Repeaters will space the carts out so the train isn't packed so tight. The go button and its wiring are still left for the next stream.
