Station Floor Building: Hypermine Vanilla S2 Episode 20

  • Published on

This stream archive runs about 65 minutes and opens on a card reading "Stream Archive" and "Station Floor Building", with no episode number, so the number here comes from the playlist. After a run of planning streams in the test world, this one is back on the Hypermine server. "Today we're probably going to be building instead of just planning," Basket says. The job is the floor of Basket Station, the big pit in town that will become the main rail station. Cassildz waves "o//" in the in-game chat at the start, and jandoncom is on the server too.

A checkerboard over the pit

First comes a gear swap, since Basket's inventory is still packed for an earlier dragon fight. Then it's down to the chests at the bottom of the pit, where everything dug out drains through hoppers, to grab polished granite and polished diorite in roughly equal amounts.

The floor goes in as a checkerboard, a few blocks at a time, with nothing underneath to stand on. "What I should have done is actually built a floor underneath." One block gets skipped so the Haste beacon below keeps shining up, at least for now. Basket explains the layout as it grows: the rails will sit lower in the middle, this level carries on over both sides, and two or three little bridges will cross over the tracks.

Walls and windows

With one side mostly floored, Basket starts the outside wall. It copies the small station's pattern: a spruce beam, a block, a three-wide window, a block, then another beam, so there are five blocks between each pair of beams. A few trees have to come down first, with the saplings saved for replanting. Counting the gaps out along the wall, one section comes up short at three. "Nobody will know."

Now that there's a ceiling over part of the pit, it's dark underneath, and a mob comes at Basket down there. Basket isn't sure where it spawned, maybe on the chests, and puts torches around the area under the floor.

The chat votes

Basket asks the chat how the floor and walls look together. A viewer suggests stairs in the windows, and another votes to swap part of the floor for furnaces. A second furnace vote follows, and then a viewer wants all three blocks at once. Crafting that many furnaces just to test it would take a while, so Basket hops into the creative test world and lays out patches there. A viewer sketches the pattern they mean, and Basket builds it: rows of furnaces mixed in with the granite and diorite.

"I think this looks better and more interesting than just a simple tiling," Basket decides, even though it means redoing most of the floor.

Redoing the floor

Back on the server, it's down to the crafting area for a pile of furnaces from cobblestone, then up to swap out blocks. Placing them turns up a snag: which way a furnace faces changes how the pattern looks, so they all have to face east. Basket says hi to jandoncom in chat, and jandoncom answers "Hello."

By the end, a good part of the floor is in the new pattern and the rest still needs swapping. "I think that floor looks pretty cool. I like it. Good choices, everybody." The stream ends there, and the credits run to the end of the video with no gameplay after them.
