Rail Station Destination Picker: Hypermine Vanilla S2 Episode 21

  • Published on

This stream archive runs about 67 minutes and opens on a card reading "Stream Archive" and "Rail Station Destination Picker", with no episode number, so the number here comes from the playlist. Episode 18 had the same title, but that one was all planning in the test world. This time Basket takes the picker to the Hypermine server: first a long shopping trip for parts, then the start of the real build.

A shopping list

It starts with a quick stop in the creative test world to count parts. The tile that makes up one button gets copied across the whole wall, so "it'll be everything times 32." That means 64 sticky pistons, 32 lamps, a lot of repeaters, and comparators too.

Then it's over to the server. Basket Station's checkerboard floor is done ("I finished the floor earlier today"), and Basket looks over the wall where the buttons will go. One worry is the block behind them: put a stone button on the wrong one and you won't be able to see it well.

Crafting benches and slime

Basket is out of crafting benches, so the first stop is soapthgr8. In chat, the two of them turn out to both be at the iron farm, with soapthgr8 "on some scaffolding working on a ceiling." Basket throws an ender pearl to get up there and leaves with crafting benches. Heading out, Basket could have taken a nether portal, but on this server it's the rail or nothing: "I'm trying to stick to the rail, that's why I'm making the railroad."

Next comes slime. Through a garden and down past a lever there's a base belonging to another player, with a slime farm and a green-themed slime hallway. Basket takes what's there and crafts it into slime blocks for the pistons.

After that it's chest diving. Basket checks the fish market and the other storage spots for quartz and redstone, and comes up short on glowstone ("I'll buy some from the villagers"). Along the way Basket crafts stacks of repeaters, comparators and sticky pistons.

How the station will work

Basket starts a new level below the station floor, with a layer of spruce for the redstone to sit on. Spruce burns, but Basket wants to know at a glance which blocks not to break. While building, Basket explains the plan. Trains pass straight through the middle by default. If your cart carries a token for this station, a detector kicks you off. Leaving, you go right unless a second sensor sends you left. Drop-off will be close to the buttons and to the stairs down to the freight level, "because I want them to use this a lot."

The first rows

Working from a screenshot of the test-world design, Basket counts the buttons out loud in four groups of eight and lays the rows: sticky pistons, redstone dust, repeaters set to full delay, then torches and another spruce layer. The repeaters run out partway, so Basket crafts more.

Then comes the reset line, which will run along the top of the droppers. Basket tests it with a quick power-up to see if the signal carries all the way across. It does, though there will probably be BUD powering to fix later. Comparators go in along the line, and every other spot gets a torch pillar that will send the signal up to the lamps, which aren't in yet. The droppers aren't in either, because Basket has run out of materials for them. The stream ends there.
