This VOD runs about 56 minutes and opens on a card reading "Hypermine Vanilla VOD" and "Train Car Throttling", with no episode number, so the number here comes from the playlist. Nearly all of it happens in Basket's Test World, not on the server. Near the end Basket logs on to the Hypermine server for a short look under Basket Station. Basket is the only player on screen.
Where the counter falls short
The train length counter from last time works, but only when the cars run close together. Spread them out and it counts them as separate trains. A real train might be an engine, a passenger car, some freight, a gap, and then the caboose. "So this actually, this won't quite work for what we want."
The fix starts from a screenshot another player on the server sent: stack minecarts straight up on a bottom half slab, and let a sticky piston feed them out one at a time. The first try glitches through the slab because the cart gets no push from the first block, so Basket rebuilds the bottom. Then it works. Each press of a button lets out one cart, "so that way you can kind of stagger them to go out at whatever speed you want."
Counting what's in the stack
Basket strings tripwire across the stack to see whether it can tell one cart from two. One cart lights its row, but two don't light the next row up. A viewer asks about a slab in another spot, and the test shows it has to be a bottom slab for the push to work. Another viewer suggests moving the piston one block further back. Basket tries it: "Okay, all right I'm gonna work with this."
Two hopper timers
The plan: the first car to arrive starts a hopper timer, which waits long enough for the whole train to pile up in the stack and then lets the cars out at a steady pace. Getting the pistons to behave takes a while ("I hate bud powering"), but then a test train of nine cars goes in. "So this would be the maximum length of a train, I think, that I'm planning on supporting." The cars come out staggered.
A short train, one freight car and a caboose, breaks it, because it needs to wait longer. So Basket builds a second timer: one decides how long to wait, the other how long to keep letting cars out. Basket trims the items in the timer down to 24 and then 14, and a widely spaced train still gathers into one group before it leaves.
The cars then run into the sword counter from last time. The first one goes the wrong way, and the real build will have more distance so the count can keep up. With the speed now under control, Basket thinks the pressure plate might work after all. When a viewer says the redstone has them confused, Basket breaks it into parts: the wait timer, the dispense timer, and the launcher, where a tripwire drops a wooden sword into a dropper for each car.
Under the station
Basket then logs on to the Hypermine Vanilla server and goes under the station's main floor. Arriving trains drop their riders, then pass the sorter that sends chest carts with items one way and empty ones the other. Plain minecarts get broken and sent up top. The big hole nearby is where the freight yard will go.
The new idea may also replace the trapdoor contraption that holds spare minecarts. "All I really need to do is just pile them up and then use the half slab thing," which takes up much less room under a station this size. Basket plans to build the throttle on the server next, possibly off camera. The credits run to the end of the video with no gameplay after them.
