Train Station Launcher: Hypermine Vanilla S2 Episode 30

  • Published on

This VOD runs about 65 minutes and opens on a card reading "Hypermine SMP VOD" and "Train Station Launcher", with no episode number, so the number here comes from the playlist. It happens on the Hypermine Vanilla server, apart from a two-minute look at a design in Basket's creative world. Runwyld is on the server too: "<Runwyld> o/" sits in the in-game chat right at the start.

A better idea for the small station

Basket starts with a thought about the small rail station. Right now it breaks plain minecarts at the end of the line, puts them in a chest, and uses a whole other minecart setup to carry them back up. "But why not just have them go forward, go all the way up to the top, and then break them up there." It works as it is, but that would save "a lot of extra silliness."

Some work happened between streams. Basket Station has more redstone lamps, and the plan now includes a "Go!" button with a sign and a clear button at the other end that would send everything waiting around a corner and back in as if it had just arrived.

The launcher

The stream's job is launching trains. Basket puts a row of levers under the floor to power the extra rails and set the direction of the intersections, then builds a hopper timer below the button. When it fires, it holds one track switch long enough that a leaving train goes straight across instead of turning.

Basket expects a piston to grab a repeater, and it doesn't. A viewer suggests taking the signal straight from the timer's redstone block instead of through a comparator. "Yeah, you're right. I like that answer better." The button then sends a signal down a line of repeaters so each part fires a full delay after the one before. The idea is that picking a destination will also send off any engine and caboose already waiting.

The first press does nothing, because the timer has a cooldown. The second works. Basket warns Runwyld that test carts are about to run on the line, then times a lone caboose. It gets through with a little to spare, so the timing stays.

Buttons and dispensers

A quick trip to the creative world shows the old design for the button wall, and why its button sits higher: lower down, it sets off the wrong part. Back on the server, Basket stacks up a plain stone brick wall with nine buttons to request passenger carts. A first try with torch pillars gets pulled out in favor of sticky pistons and slime blocks.

Basket crafts nine dispensers and sets them along the top. A cart dispensed there drops onto the track below, and freight cars brought up later will drop onto the same track. The test: "I hit this button, the cart appears, cool, good, works." The wall itself is a placeholder, and Basket hopes to get someone better at design to replace it.

Refilling the carts

Next comes a hopper line over the dispensers. Plain minecarts that arrive will ride up top, break on a cactus and refill the dispensers, filling the first one before the rest, since that's the one a lone rider uses. Spare carts will just sit and despawn. There's no cactus or dirt on hand yet. A viewer suggests a redstone block beside the rail, and Basket agrees but keeps the space open as a walkway for repairs. Meanwhile the chat reports "Runwyld was blown up by Creeper," twice.

Last, Basket runs a cart through the spot where carts will come down to the dispensers. It stops short at first, and taking out one extra block fixes it, so the same spot can hand out freight cars too. Freight will still need a sorter to spread it across the slots, probably something like the freight yard plans. "The timer here works well, the launcher, all that stuff." The credits run to the end of the video with no gameplay after them.
