Minecart Processing: Hypermine Vanilla S2 Episode 31

  • Published on

This VOD runs about 63 minutes and opens on a card reading "Hypermine SMP VOD" and "Minecart Processing", with no episode number, so the number here comes from the playlist. It all happens on the Hypermine Vanilla server, under Basket Station, apart from two quick looks at a copy of the build in Basket's creative world. Cassildz joins the server partway through and says hello in chat.

Ladders and a cactus

Basket starts by adding ladders, "just so I can easily get up and down from these places," and moves a stretch of track so solid blocks can sit on top of the hoppers below it. Then comes the cactus. Plain passenger carts will come up from the bottom, hit it, break, and drop into the system. The whole area is meant to stay dark, so the torches are only for now.

Getting down to the next part means a ramp, and Basket builds it with water, swimming up and down with Depth Strider, which makes it go "a little bit faster in the water than I need to."

Carts on request

The path for plain carts gets rerouted right through some old mechanisms ("these things don't even need to be here") with powered rail and levers. A viewer suggests a rail duplicator. Basket says maybe, but probably won't remember.

Then the walkthrough. Arriving carts drop their riders. One detector picks out chest carts with items, another picks out empty chest carts for storage, and plain carts go forward and zoom up top. There they break and land in droppers wired to the request buttons. Basket sends a cart off as a demo, and it loops around and comes back to the station. "Tada, all that redstone all just so they can get a cart from there back to there."

A return line

If carts leave the top platform without anyone hitting the go button, a new line underneath brings them back around through the sorter. A person who rides that way by mistake gets dropped off before the carts head downstairs.

Where loaded chest carts land

Next is the route for chest carts that still hold items. The landing line "needs to support at least 10," so Basket gives it extra room, builds a floor at the bottom with water again, and puts tripwire hooks where the carts will stop. Old storage chests full of leftover items are in the way, so a long cleanup moves everything into one pile of chests.

The throttle goes in

This is the slab stack from the test world: string, a sticky piston, a bottom half slab, and two hopper timers. Basket hops into the creative world copy to check the layout ("the half-slab is back one from where the thing goes in") and comes back to build it. Squeezing in the two timers takes some fiddling, but the test works. Basket simulates a cart dropping in: a delay lets the rest of the train pile up in a big stack, then the cars get pushed out one by one at a set pace. The timers get 16 and 14 items, the numbers from the test world.

The first chest cart

To finish, Basket makes a chest minecart, puts a string in it, and sends it through. The sorter sends it forward and it drops where it should. The drop looked steep, so Basket moves the landing out one more block, powers the rail, and runs it again to be sure eight carts will fit. It works.

Still to do: raise that line to free up space below, finish the sorter after it, and rework the empty chest cart storage, because "there's a couple easier ways to do it." The credits run to the end of the video with no gameplay after them.
