Chest Minecart Storage: Hypermine Vanilla S2 Episode 43

  • Published on

This stream runs about 67 minutes. It opens on a card reading "Hypermine Vanilla VOD" and "Chest Minecart Storage" with no episode number, so the number here comes from the playlist. The work is at the small rail station, Port Hypermine South, not Basket Station. One other player, Runwyld, shows up in the in-game chat, waving hello, sleeping through the night and clearing the weather.

An emptier in the test world

Basket starts in the test world with a new idea for emptying chest minecarts. A cart drops onto a half slab over a hopper, the hopper drains it, and when the hopper runs empty a falling edge detector fires a sticky piston to let the next cart through. A viewer suggests setting the first repeater to 2. Basket leaves it on 1 for now "and we'll see if it breaks."

The first cart rolls back out instead of landing. Sloping the track in fixes that. Then Basket stacks several loaded carts in a column to see whether they wait their turn. They do, emptying one by one. "Awesome, amazing, it works."

It takes vertical space instead of horizontal space, which is what the small rail station has. The catch is that the emptied items end up at the bottom.

Buying redstone

Back on the server, after a failed login, Basket packs supplies and walks to what Basket calls "Soap's Redstone Shop." The shop has a "Pay What You Want" sign over its payment frames. The chest holds loose redstone dust, not blocks. "I don't know why they didn't bring blocks." Basket takes about three stacks, leaves five diamonds, decides that might not be enough, and adds emeralds.

A tour, and a broken lever

At the small rail station Basket walks through the parts: the top level that hands out empty minecarts, the four destination buttons, and the sorter below where engines and cabooses split off. Empty chest carts have backed up where they shouldn't. A lever is missing, broken when Basket squeezed in the longer delay of a repeater and a half. Putting it back clears the jam.

The station is "almost impossible to figure out what's going on unless you built it." Basket promises the next one will be planned out and spaced apart.

Storage that hands out one cart

Under the station, Basket builds a cart store like the one at Basket Station. Empty chest carts collect at the bottom. To ask for one, an item drops into a hopper. A comparator keeps a clock running while the hopper has an item, the clock lets a cart go, and the cart picks up the item on its way. A surprise: redstone running beside the comparator changes it even outside subtraction mode. The test cart comes down, takes the item and leaves. "No problem."

The spiral back up

The carts still need a way to the top, so Basket starts a spiral of rail that runs three blocks, turns and climbs. Basket can't walk up it until a viewer spots what is wrong, and Basket takes a few blocks out. "That mystery is solved." Basket lays powered and plain rail in turn and runs short before the whole spiral is done, then powers every other powered rail on the way back up.

The plan: when a rider picks a destination, the engine and caboose waiting up top leave, and two carts climb the spiral to replace them. Next time Basket wants a shorter emptier up top for chest carts and engines, and a detector on the tracks to request the replacements. The credits run to the end with no gameplay after them.
