Small Station Engine & Caboose Stations: Hypermine Vanilla S2 Episode 44

  • Published on

This stream runs about 49 minutes. It opens on a card reading "Hypermine Vanilla VOD" and "Small Station Engine & Caboose Stations" with no episode number, so the number here comes from the playlist. The work is back at the small rail station. In the in-game chat, jandoncom waves "o/" and leaves the game, and Basket waves back.

A floor lower

Last time, Basket built the empty chest cart storage under the station and a way for carts to come back up. This stream is about what happens to those carts once they arrive: they need places to wait as the next engine and caboose.

The station sits in a huge hole, so there's plenty of room going down. Basket moves a floor lower to make space, taking care not to break the wiring above. The incoming track now turns, drops, and turns again. "I'm building a thing I've built in the big rail station, but this is a much more condensed manner."

Every pickaxe is silk touch

The new hopper line needs furnaces on top to cut lag, and Basket is short of stone to make them. Every pickaxe in the inventory has Silk Touch, so Basket crafts a plain iron one. "I made a pickaxe, everybody. Look at that." A furnace follows: "I'm so good at this game." The chat logs the achievements Time to Mine!, Getting an Upgrade and Hot Topic. Basket pulls some cobblestone out of a wall to finish the job.

Asking for the next cart

On the new floor goes a dropper. When it fires, it drops an item down to the storage below, and that releases one cart, which carries the item back up. A detector rail will fire it when the caboose leaves, and another when the engine leaves, with a little delay so the two signals don't run together. Breaking through a wall, Basket finds named engine blocks sitting in a cart, and later uses one of them as a plain building block.

Two places to stop

The first waiting spot is quick: a cart rolls up the powered rail and stops where it should. "That is test number one." The second one faces the wrong way, so Basket rotates it and moves its circuit to the other side. That runs into a block of plain ice, and Basket can't send a signal through a hopper, so the wire dips under the hoppers instead. After that it stops properly too.

Then a real test. Basket crafts a chest minecart, bumps it in, and it fills with two items and moves on. "Working as intended."

Engine or caboose

Basket moves the split further out for room. Each cart coming up goes to the engine spot by default. If an item is sitting in a small hopper circuit, the cart goes around to the caboose spot instead, and the item gets moved along so only one cart goes to the caboose. The first test sends a cart to the engine spot. With an item in place, the next one goes to the caboose and the switch flips back. "Watch, and it changed over. Awesome."

One cart short

The last test runs the whole thing. Basket loads the hopper with junk items and sends a cart out. One cart comes up, and the token moves where it should, but there should have been two. The two detector signals came too close together, "click and then click," so only one request went through. More delay should fix it, and that's left for next time. The credits run to the end with no gameplay after them.
