Engine & Caboose Unloading Station: Hypermine Vanilla S2 Episode 45

  • Published on

This stream runs about 66 minutes. It opens on a card reading "Hypermine Vanilla VOD" and "Engine & Caboooose Emptying Station" with no episode number, so the number here comes from the playlist. All of it happens at the small rail station. In the in-game chat, Twinkles joins and waves "o/", and Basket waves back. Later ectorvynk joins, sleeps through the night and asks "did anyone need night?" Basket answers "I'm fine either way."

Filling the buffer

The cart request from last time is in place, but the storage under the station is empty, so it keeps trying to hand out carts that don't exist. Basket was ready to walk to the iron farm, then checks and finds iron after all. "Ah ha! I found iron, guys." A crafting session turns it into a pile of minecarts and chest minecarts.

Loading them goes badly at first. The carts catch on a lip and nudge each other out of place, and a hopper is in the way. Basket moves the whole system up one block, caps the exposed hoppers with furnaces, and walls in the sides so the carts fall where they should. A few cabooses have bounced onto the caboose lines and have to be fished out. Once the carts settle, the buffer turns out to be roomy. "So we actually have quite a big capacity here."

Two carts for two requests

Last stream ended with the request firing once when it should fire twice. Basket adds a little more delay and puts 16 items in. The line ticks twice and 14 are left, so two requests went out. The first run still goes wrong: a cart bounces all the way down, because a hopper was holding extra items from earlier testing. With that cleared, the second run is clean. One cart goes to the caboose spot and one to the engine spot. "So that part's working."

The emptying station

Next come the engines and cabooses that arrive still carrying tokens. They need emptying before they can join the stack of empty carts. Basket builds a shorter copy of the emptier from the test world: the cart rests on a slab over a hopper, a chest below collects the items, and when the hopper runs dry a falling edge detector fires a sticky piston that pushes the empty cart on so the next one drops in. Basket admits the build strays outside the space it was meant to fit. "I feel like I'm trying to get the mission done, even if it's not great."

From the emptier, a spiral of powered rail climbs back up to the platform, three rails per step, so empty carts return to the stack. Basket powers it with levers. A viewer asks whether levers beat torches. Levers give off no light and power the block beside them too, so one lever covers two rails.

Rerouting the engines and cabooses

Up top, engines and cabooses still stop at their old spot. Basket runs a new rail out at that level and drops them down a chute instead. Some powered rail becomes plain rail, since the carts already have the speed. One powered rail keeps pointing the wrong way, and Basket rips out wiring to fix it. "It's going to look silly, but we're doing it." A test chest minecart goes through the changeover and drops where it should. A powered line underneath carries the carts over to the emptier.

What's left

The items the emptier collects pile up at the bottom. Next stream they need lifting back into the start of the sorter's hopper line, and the caboose tokens need to reach the caboose area. Basket's verdict: "This one actually went pretty well. There wasn't any like big issues." The credits run to the end with no gameplay after them.
