Delagging Basket Station: Hypermine Vanilla S2 Episode 49

  • Published on

This stream runs about 70 minutes and stays on the server, almost all of it under the floor of Basket Station. It opens on a card reading "Hypermine Vanilla VOD" and "Delagging Basket Station" with no episode number, so the number here comes from the playlist. Last time Basket built the registers under Intersection 2. Today's job is lag. The destination picker under the station has far more hoppers than the network needs, and they all cost the server something.

Too many hoppers

Under the button room sit two layers of hoppers, redstone and droppers. Pick a destination and the redstone over the matching droppers fires, and the items drop down to the engine. Each line was built long, and every slot has to be filled with an item renamed "null" so the sorting works. Basket counts what a real route needs: a turn toward the main station, a couple of spots that aren't intersections yet, and the intersection built last time. "At most it's going to need four." Seven per line leaves room to spare, instead of 15.

The other fix is furnaces. A hopper with open air or a solid block on top keeps checking for items, and an earlier stream showed that a furnace on top stops that. Basket credits a viewer for raising it before that test. Basket isn't sure it means less lag, "but I do know that... it is listening less."

Draining the chambers

There are four chambers like this one. Basket drains the water and pulls up the packed ice floor with silk touch, since packed ice is worth keeping. Then the lines come apart. Broken blocks keep falling into the hoppers before Basket can grab them, and the water carries them down to a chest that was swapped in where the engine normally sits. A door goes missing along the way, probably into a hopper. Partway through Basket runs out of blocks, and a trip down to that chest gets some of them back.

Skipping a whole side

Then Basket goes further. The far side won't be needed for now, so the input gets rerouted through a new hopper and bypasses it completely. "I have half the things." With 32 buttons, that still leaves room for 16 destinations, which Basket thinks is plenty. The rooms keep their size, so the lines can be extended later if the network ever needs more.

It doesn't all go smoothly. One floor is short on packed ice, so items stop partway instead of washing down. A new floor and a water update get them flowing again. Some of the redstone coming out may already have been broken, "so it might not have worked properly anyway." A clicking noise turns out, Basket guesses, to be the detector that sends out the engine.

Furnaces up top

The last job is the top level, where some lines loop under other builds. Basket follows each one, swaps blocks for furnaces and closes up an opening that isn't needed. A trench stays open on purpose, so mobs that walk off the edge can't get into the main works. A viewer asks whether the new switch at Intersection 2 has been tested. Not yet: it still needs tokens, and the two stations aren't ready.

Right at the end Basket shouts "Oh God! Sniper!" and admits to having "a good bow, but no arrows." Half the hoppers and droppers are gone and the rest have furnaces on top. Next up is testing Intersection 2 once it's filled. The credits run to the end with no gameplay after them.
