Wiring Intersection 2: Hypermine Vanilla S2 Episode 50

  • Published on

This stream runs about 57 minutes and stays on the server the whole time. It opens on a card reading "Hypermine Vanilla VOD" and "Wiring Intersection 2" with no episode number, so the number here comes from the playlist. Last time the registers and the caboose clear went in under Intersection 2, the first regular intersection on the rail network. Today Basket works on the part that gives tokens back.

A bypass for trains with no tokens

Basket skips the night, puts a cart on the line and rides out to the intersection. Some of the rail was finished off camera since last time. A train with no tokens always turns right here, which on one approach leads nowhere useful. So Basket adds a rail that loops it straight back around to go the other way. "Ta-da!" Then comes a little cleanup with gravel and cobblestone along the track.

Around the 10 minute mark soapthgr8 joins, trades waves with Basket in chat and sleeps through the night too.

Tokens back on the way out

The idea goes like this. A train drops tokens into hoppers as it rolls into the intersection. Caboose tokens can't be handed straight back, because one might end up in an engine and "everything would think the engine is a caboose." The other tokens get carried up and put into a hopper on the far side, facing into the rail, so the engine and caboose of a train heading the other way pick them up as they pass. "Chances are" that train is going to a station that can use the token again.

Basket first tries dipping the rail into the ground so the hopper can hide under a carpet, but the dip breaks the way rails have to rise. A viewer says the V shape won't work anyway, and Basket has already pulled it out because "it looked dumb." Basket settles on an exposed hopper instead. A viewer asks whether the player or the cart picks up the tokens. The engine and caboose do.

Item elevators underground

Down below, the caboose tokens get rerouted into a chest for now. The rest run into droppers stacked into an item elevator, driven by a clock with a torch pillar up the side. A small cave is in the way. "This cave is gone." The first try doesn't reach high enough, so Basket rebuilds the torch tower one block lower to keep its top torch under the gravel. A test load goes up, with one item left behind as a buffer, which is fine.

To cut lag, Basket crafts furnaces and sets them on top of the hoppers.

At about 34 minutes soapthgr8 types "I'm out for now" and leaves the game.

Side two, and most of side three

The second side gets the same treatment: caboose tokens drop into their own chest, and the other tokens ride a second elevator. Its clock has to be powered by default this time. Basket feeds in a few iron blocks to test, and they come up. Then it's on to the third side, where a column of hoppers goes in and a line runs over to it.

Basket plans to finish that last side off camera. After that, the intersection needs its tokens loaded and it's "basically done," but it can't really be used until two stations are fully working. No train runs through it on camera. The credits run to the end with no gameplay after them.
