Basket Station Stores: Hypermine Vanilla S2 Episode 61

  • Published on

This stream runs about 66 minutes. It opens on a card reading "Hypermine Vanilla VOD" and "Basket Station Stores" with no episode number, so the number here comes from the playlist. Last time the mall's shop footprints went down on the new foundation, but nobody had decided what the stores would be built from. This stream settles that. Basket is the only player on screen.

A test store in creative

Before touching the server, Basket pops into a creative world to try out blocks. Quartz, nether brick, and polished andesite, granite and diorite all get laid down next to each other. Then Basket builds a sample store seven across, the same width as the plots at the station, with a glass front. A closed store would fill its doorway with glass; an open one leaves it clear.

Gray stained glass looks dirty, so light gray wins. A viewer suggests changing up the inside wall, and Basket adds a stripe of granite. "Oh, that's a good idea." The walls come out four high, since the mall will have two levels. A test with redstone lamps under stained glass keeps the lowest light level at nine, which is enough to stop mobs spawning.

Lamps under the quartz

Back on the server, Basket picks up where the quartz floor stopped. The lights go in first: every three blocks a redstone lamp sits under white glass, each with its own lever. "One, two, three, light." Pillar quartz and slabs fill in around them. One spot is left unfinished because stairs up to the second level will go there, maybe two or three wide. The walkway keeps going until the quartz runs out.

The first stores go up

Then the foundation side turns into stores. Basket tears out the old floor and puts in polished andesite, with walls of andesite and a stripe of granite like the test build. Each store is seven across, sharing walls with its neighbors, and gets torches so nothing spawns before the real lighting goes in underneath. The fronts are left open for glass, which Basket doesn't have yet. "I need a bunch of glass." Basket isn't sure where on the server it's fine to dig sand, and a viewer points to a stretch along the coast.

Near the stairs one store comes in a block so it can be smaller, "like a sandwich shop or something." That feeds the food court idea: places that already sell food on the server could open an "Express" version here. The stairs will be three wide going up, and there are no stairs going down on this side. A plain wall left over gets a suggestion from the chat to cover it with art, and Basket likes it.

A shopping trip downstairs

Basket runs out of blocks and goes down to the basement storeroom. Andesite and granite go into a chest minecart, and a button sends it up the line to the mall. "We're gonna take some suffocation damage. That's okay." Upstairs, the blocks come out of the cart ready for the next round of walls and floor.

Like a real mall

The stream ends with a walk down the new row. There are no stairs up on this side, only at the far ends. Basket says real malls work the same way: "you have to go to one of the ends." Still to come: the other side, new walls, the second floor, a roof that might be a dome, and an outside that looks good too. The credits run to the end with no gameplay after them.
