Basket Station Mall: Hypermine Vanilla S2 Episode 65

  • Published on

This stream runs about 66 minutes. It opens on a card reading "Hypermine Vanilla VOD" and "Basket Station Mall" with no episode number, so the number here comes from the playlist. The plan is simple: "continue working on the walls here and then try to build it up so we can get to the second floor and then decide how the second floor is going to be arranged." Scoti_Garbidis and JB_Warsmith show up in the in-game chat early on, and a little later the chat shows Scoti_Garbidis leaving the game. Neither one turns up in Basket's view.

Shopping in the basement

The blocks run low almost right away. Basket lights the area first "to make sure nothing spawns" and heads down to the basement, sending chest carts along to carry the haul. Then it's time to "go shopping" through the storage for andesite, plus granite for the stripe that runs along the walls. There's still no stack of quartz. That shopping trip will have to be in the Nether.

Walls, doors and a service hallway

Back upstairs, Basket lays out one corner as it goes. A store gets a window, the doors go in, and the stairs up will probably sit right here, with a second door beside them for stairs going down. That part is a service hallway, "so I won't make it a big door." Torches go everywhere for now. "Really don't want any creepers in here ever."

A bridge with a view

Last time Basket talked about bridging the upper floor over the walkway. It happens this stream, though part of it stays open so people can still look down. "I know that in malls, oftentimes they'll be on the upper floors... half covered half not covered." Basket leaves a gap inside the floor too, in case wiring, hoppers or even a cart need to run through it later. A ladder goes all the way up in the meantime.

Stairs, take two

The stairs get another try, in stone brick stairs this time as a stand-in, since the real ones will most likely be quartz. Basket wants three blocks of room for heads, and keeps "targeting this corner" by mistake while placing them. The first layout is a tight fit, so the stairs drop one block lower for more headroom. They end up three wide, with railings on both sides, a walkway around them at the top and a little cubby left over underneath.

Thinking ahead to the food court

With the stairs settled, Basket starts on the second floor itself. The food court still needs planning, but the idea is something like a three by three spot for each table and its chairs, with walkways in between. The torches are only temporary. They'll be swapped for recessed redstone lamps, which is why the floor between levels is three blocks thick, with one layer saved for lights. Every dark gap gets filled or lit, because Basket believes spiders can still spawn in a spot only one block high. The storefront glass will probably run the whole way across, "that's typically how these are set up."

Near the end a mob shows up outside the wall, burning in the daylight. Basket says it has "a lot of armor on" and takes a shot with a bow. "Nope, I missed." None of that armor drops.

Where it stands

The floor on this side is in and lit, and the store walls are roughed out. Next time Basket will finish this area, put in the rest of the second floor, and then decide how the food court and the upstairs stores fit together. The credits run to the end with no gameplay after them.
