Basket Station Outer Wall: Hypermine Vanilla S2 Episode 67

  • Published on

This stream runs about 62 minutes. It opens on a card reading "Hypermine Vanilla SMP VOD" and "Basket Station Outer Walls" with no episode number, so the number here comes from the playlist. The inside of the mall is mostly roughed in, so Basket heads outside to work on the wall "and then deciding if I'm going to keep the spruce logs or not." Basket is the only player on screen.

Stripes that don't line up

Out front, something bugs Basket. The granite stripes between floors are two blocks apart in one place and three in another, "which kind of bugs me." Inside it makes sense, since each stripe sits where your head is on that floor. Outside it just looks uneven. The fix: take out the stone bricks and spruce logs at the bottom, put andesite there instead, and run the same two-three-two pattern all the way down to the ground. "I feel like these don't make any sense anymore."

Some of the spruce gets saved, "because spruce is good stuff." The windows will be colored glass someday, and the stairs up will get the trick that keeps zombies from walking up them. Once a section is done, Basket asks the chat, "I think I like this. You guys like it? Should I go with that all the way around?"

All the way around

So it goes all the way around. The back wall isn't really built yet, only posts showing where it will go, so Basket tears out the old blocks and lays the new pattern in layers, with trips to the storeroom for more granite and andesite. Each window gets placed by what's behind it: one stops where the stairs go up, the wall beside the stairs going down gets filled in solid, and the wall steps in a block where another store sits.

A portal hall nobody mentioned

A viewer asks if Basket has seen the new Nether entrance built for the station. Basket hadn't. The portal was meant to be temporary, and maybe secret. Basket goes through and finds a long hall with a checkered floor and patterned walls. "Whoa, that is fancy." It looks good enough that the portal will probably stay, though Basket still wants the way to it to feel hidden.

The portal also creates a problem for the rail network. If someone arrives by portal and leaves by train, or the other way around, the tokens can pile up in one spot and run short in another. Basket's ideas: keep extra tokens that flush through now and then to fill the gaps, or add an alarm for when certain tokens run low.

Along the rails

The last stretch runs beside the rail lines. Basket builds it in layers from on top of the wall, two andesite, then granite, then more andesite. At one point Basket middle-clicks a block, scrolls the mouse wheel by mistake and ends up holding steak. "Can't place down steak." A tree with no trunk at the bottom turns out to be a creeper hole, so it gets one. "Now you're a tree." Windows on this side would only look out at the rails, and Basket is leaning toward leaving them out.

Where it stands

The blocks run out near the end, so Basket lights the top of the wall with torches and puts the spare wood away in the storeroom. The front has the new pattern and most of the foundation is in. The rest needs "a bunch of sand" first, for the glass. The credits run to the end with no gameplay after them.
