Basket Station Roof: Hypermine Vanilla S2 Episode 72

  • Published on

This episode runs about an hour, and it's all about the glass roof over the Basket Station mall. Basket is the only player on screen. The plan for today: finish the top, work out the sides, and then the mall is close to done.

Six and a lantern, again

It's night when Basket climbs back up with a load of light blue glass. The pattern is the same as last time, six blocks of glass and then a sea lantern, and the lanterns now double as the roof's supports. "These are sort of supporting structures," Basket says, since otherwise "this whole thing wouldn't really stand up." Basket tries keeping six glass in one hotbar slot to keep count, then decides placing two at a time is faster, "as long as I don't fall."

The light blue runs out about 13 minutes in. Basket heads down, dyes another stack with lapis, and goes back up.

Running short on everything

Rain rolls in. The weather command needs Basket standing on a bed, and there's nothing up on the glass to put one on, so the rain stays until there's a solid surface to stand on. Then the lapis gets low. "I'll have to go mining for lapis if I start running out." By about 30 minutes that's all of it, and the sea lanterns are gone too. Still, the last strips go in, and at about 32 minutes the top part of the roof is finished.

Pillars down the sides

Next is the sides. The roof is 14 across, an even number, so there's no middle block to start from. Basket counts six out from the middle in each direction and decides that's where the sea lantern pillars go, then puts a few in to see how it looks before doing them all. "Imagine that this same glass is over that, how does that look? I think that works."

Glass is short too, so Basket tries light blue panes on the sides instead of full blocks, since panes take less glass. From inside, "you can't even really even tell." Panes it is. They're fiddly to place, and Basket builds a temporary walkway of planks along the curve to reach them. A viewer calls it a catwalk, and Basket agrees. Basket also wants to shift some windows over so they line up with the new pillars.

At about 48 minutes the first side is done. "Then we have our wall. Ta-da!" With an axe from the chests, the planks and the ladder tower come down.

A trip for sea lanterns

The other side needs more sea lanterns, so Basket clears out some inventory and rides out to another player's base, where the prismarine is stored. Basket looks up the recipe, then crafts a whole run of sea lanterns from prismarine shards and crystals. The extra materials go into a chest.

What's left

Back at the station there's no time to place them. The list is short now: the glass on the other side, a window in the far wall, and the entrances, which are still blocked off and need to work. After a bit of cleanup, people can claim shops. Then it's on to the other rail stations, probably a couple of streams from now. Basket also wants to write a tutorial while building the next small rail station, so other players can follow it and connect their own bases to the network. The credits run to the end with no gameplay after them.
