This episode runs about 65 minutes and opens on a card reading "Episode 94" and "Debugging Train Stations." Basket logs in with a load of wood and iron and one plan: fill South Port Hypermine Station with chest minecarts. First comes a stop at the to-do signs at Basket Station, where the header sign gets a new name: "Basketask List."
Filling the backup chest
On the way through, Basket takes a quick lap of the mall to see if anyone has opened a shop yet. Nobody has. Then it's a button press, a short wait, and a train to South Port. There Basket crafts chests and chest minecarts by the batch and drops them into the "Extra CHEST Minecarts" chest, where hoppers carry them down into the machinery below. The idea is a reserve: arriving trains get absorbed into a big stack of carts, and if that stack ever runs low, the backup keeps the station from running dry. It's slow work. "There's gotta be a better way to do this, but I can't think of what it is."
The tour that found the bug
With the chest still filling, Basket gives a viewer a tour of the station: the buttons for the main station and Iron Farm, the launcher, the sorters for engines and cabooses, full chest carts, empty chest carts and passenger carts, and the chests of tokens that tell each intersection which way to send a train. Then the basement shows the problem. Every cart Basket fed in got dispensed, and they're all stuck in one spot. "They all dispensed, every single one of them."
The machine is meant to stop once carts fill up past a sensor. But the sensor sits above where the carts can ever reach, so it never saw enough carts and never stopped. "So yeah, I built this thing wrong."
A caboose that won't come
Fixing it takes rail, so Basket rides to Basket Station for supplies. On the way back out, the engine shows up but the caboose never does, even after a second press. Down in the sorter, a cart is sitting in the wrong place ("Maybe somebody logged out after they hit a button"), and one part holds two items where Basket wants only one. After a fix the carts bounce the right way, and the next request brings a caboose and an engine.
The ride back passes the railroad crossing, which raises barriers, blinks its lights and plays a sound for each train, and an intersection that takes a token from the engine to go straight instead of turning east.
Moving the drop point
At South Port, Basket digs into the wall for room and lays a new route: the dispenser now always sends carts straight, up over a raised block, around the corners and down into the stack above the tripwire hook. Then the pile has to go. About 50 carts sit in one spot, and Basket breaks them all, saying a stack that size could end up as an engine or caboose and then "might explode or like nothing would really work right." The chests get picked up; most of the loose carts are left behind.
Back to the busywork
A small test comes first. A few carts go in, they pass the sensor, and the clock stops, which is what it should have done all along. Then it's more chest minecarts, sped up a little once Basket finds that holding Control and pressing Q works. By the end of the chest supply the reserve downstairs is nearly full, with only some hoppers and the chest upstairs left to fill, and nothing is draining out. Basket plans to finish the rest between streams.
