This episode runs about 67 minutes and opens on a card reading "Episode 98" and "Chest Minecart Backup System." Basket picks up where the last one stopped, at the three new chests in Basket Station: "let's actually finish off this task while it's fresh in our minds."
A tripwire and a torch pillar
The chest minecart refill already has its dispenser, slow clock and hopper chain. What it lacks is a way to know when the stack of spare carts is low. Basket crafts two tripwire hooks, finds one string, and strings a tripwire across the stack a little way down, which becomes the minimum level. When enough carts sit on top of it, the wire is tripped and the clock up top should stop.
Getting that signal up to the clock takes a torch pillar, redstone torches alternating on and off as they climb. Partway up Basket switches to stair-stepping the torches to cut some of the delay, then finds the signal at the top is the wrong way round and adds one more torch to invert it.
Testing with a pile of carts
Basket crafts a batch of chest minecarts and drops them in. The clock doesn't run at first: "this thing has actually broken my redstone." A piece of redstone dust on top gets it ticking, and carts start dropping slowly, the tripwire blinking as each one falls past. The first batch runs out before the stack is high enough. A second batch does it: "this has actually stopped. Good."
Then the chest upstairs needs a reserve. That means a lot of chests, so Basket reuses some chests and hoppers already placed nearby, then goes down to the tree farm under the station to chop wood for the rest. Along the way Basket finds out that holding Ctrl+Q keeps throwing items, which makes emptying a crafted pile much faster.
Lamps that ask for attention
Basket wants a way to tell at a glance when the cart chest runs empty. The plan is a comparator off the hopper and an inverted signal into a redstone lamp under the chest. The first wiring powers the block the hopper sits against and locks it, so the power moves to the block next to the lamp, with a slab carrying the dust over a torch. The lamp works but is hard to see. A viewer suggests gray glass in place of the andesite in front, and Basket tries light gray before going with gray.
A second lamp goes under the Lost & Found chest, lighting when it has something in it. Basket tries a sticky piston with a redstone block to keep the wiring small. The first test shows the retracting redstone block powering something it shouldn't, so it moves one spot, and the next test works. The middle lamp, under the token chest, stays dark on purpose.
Filling the chest and the task list
The rest of the stream is crafting chest minecarts, running low on iron, and making more, until the light under the cart chest goes out: "It no longer needs our attention." The Lost & Found lamp stays lit, since last episode's junk is still in that chest.
At the task signs, "Finish Chest Minecart Dropoff in Basket Station" comes down. In its place goes "Store Lost&Found in Basket Station," a lower-priority job for moving all that junk somewhere else.
