The Mini Malist: Minimalist Episode 1

  • Published on

Minimalist is a complete the monument map by Kaladun, and Team B.S., Basket and Scoti_Garbidis, start it here in Minecraft 1.8 on Normal. Episode 1 is setup: the rules, a strange potato, and the first wood and stone from a forest room below the start. When the video ends, they have stone tools, a bow and a stack of torches, and no wool yet.

Rules and objectives

The start is a gray stone cave lit with glowstone, with a wall of signs: "Welcome to Minimalist, By Kaladun" and "A CTM map where every dungeon is 24x24x24!" A reset button sits by a sign warning, "Sometimes so many mobs will spawn that you just can't win."

The objective book says to find and complete the majestic monument by placing the 16 colors of wool and four ore blocks on it. Only wool found inside the dungeons counts. The iron, emerald, gold and diamond blocks may be crafted. No making or moving ender chests, no nether portal of their own, since one will be provided, and "there is no rule number six." The notes book adds that every area hides named loot and each dungeon hides one emerald ore.

The Potato of Shame

Item frames on the wall hold a Potato of Shame. Its label reads "It just sits and silently judges you," with -50% Max Health and -75% Speed. One lands in Basket's inventory, and on the recording somebody is suddenly "all slow." It turns out the potato only slows you while it is in your hand, and both potatoes end up thrown away.

Wood first

Stairs lead down to a forest room full of oak logs. The chat fills with achievements for both of them: Getting Wood, Benchmarking, Time to Strike, Time to Mine. Two wooden swords and an axe come first. After that they find a chest of wood and a crafting table already set out for them.

A furnace goes down for charcoal and torches. One of them hands eight of 16 torches to the other.

Skeleton spawner

Further in are spawners. "Skelly spawner." Spiders crowd the grass, and the skeletons "can suddenly aim." Basket earns Monster Hunter along the way, and Basket's hearts barely move, but Scoti_Garbidis comes out of the fight on one heart: "I'm not dead."

Cake and a bow

Back in the start cave sits a cake on a cobblestone pillar, and Basket goes straight for it. From the player still on one heart: "Don't mind me, I'm just trying to get back up from one heart while you eat all the cake in front of me." There is string for a bow and arrows, and a bow gets made. Lava glows in a nearby wall, good for a cobblestone generator if they find water and a bucket.

Where it ends

The furnace goes back down and more torches start cooking. "This seems really easy. Maybe I'm jinxing us." They decide to make some torches and stop there. The video closes on a shot of Basket's character in the grass, then the end cards. No wool and no ore blocks are on the monument yet.
