Mage Tower (Solo Attempt): Monumenta Episode 7

  • Published on

There's no quest waiting after the crown, so Basket packs a night vision potion, clears some inventory space, and goes looking for adventure. South was the lighthouse. East was the jungle. "Let's adventure north and let's see what we find."

A big building to the north

The signs point to the old mines one way and town the other. Basket follows a road past some horses and spots a big building in the distance. "I like that big building, that seems cool."

It's the Mage Tower, and chat says it respawns in 24 minutes. That's enough time to run in, hopefully survive, and see what kind of damage can be done. There are already torches inside, so someone may have been through first.

No arrows

The first floor has skeletons, the special kind. Basket goes to shoot one and finds there are no arrows in the inventory. "I didn't think to bring any arrows." So it's the old plan: run in, torch up, lure the mobs away from the spawners, then break them. Creeper spawners first.

The weapon is doing its job. It has knockback, Sharpness I and fire aspect, plus an area effect, so "it's a pretty effective weapon." Basket grabs some pistons on the way because they sound promising.

The archer with blindness

Higher up, the mobs carry "mean sticks" and set Basket on fire. One of them drops a few arrows, which helps. Then an archer shows up that hits with blindness. "He's really strong and I can't see." Basket backs off, puts a health potion on the bar, and stumbles onto a chest while retreating.

The next stretch is slow: eat, heal, lure, fight, light a spawner, back up again. Basket isn't sure who's setting whom on fire. "It might be that I'm putting them on fire so then they're putting me on fire." Somewhere in there, Basket notices the lucky helmet has been on the whole time.

Through the walls instead

The room past the ladder is "really bad": a bunch of spawns, at least one witch, a baby zombie. So Basket skips the ladder, pillars up beside it, and tunnels through the walls to look into rooms from the outside.

It works. "I found a chest, that's awesome." The chest holds something with fire protection, a cactus and a regeneration potion. With seven minutes left on the reset, Basket digs higher, marks the way back down, and keeps in mind that getting caught inside at the reset probably means suffocating.

The tunnel opens onto a catwalk on the edge of the building. The blindness and slowness mobs are out there, and Basket keeps clear of them. "They spawn really nasty gas." One more chest sits by some bookcases, so Basket tunnels around to it, swaps in a better shield and grabs glowstone.

Out before the reset

Two minutes left. Basket digs back down through the dirt tunnel and gets out. "We kind of cheese the level a little bit, but that's perfect." No deaths, a bag of loot, and a plan to come back with more arrows, better gear, "maybe some buddies."
