White Wool Part 4: Monumenta Episode 26

  • Published on

Part 4 opens in the middle of a fight. There are mobs coming down the stairs, a double spawner across the way, and a hole in the floor that somebody fills in "so we stop falling in there." The party is johnfal_92 and Dash (dash10138) again, going by the nameplates. Scoti isn't here. The mobs are the easy kind, at least. "If I hit them with my AoE, they die pretty fast."

Welcome to the middle

They come out at the top level of the dungeon's middle section, with a chest in the center and stairs going up on either side. The bow mobs still set one of them on fire, even while blocking. A creeper spawner is hiding somewhere in the ceiling, and closing it off doesn't help much, since mobs can spawn through. The layout looks mirrored, so they check the far side for a matching chest. There is one.

The next room has lava, blazes and creepers, and the arrows are running out. "I've used a stack." Then they find a pressure plate, "probably one of our three." Someone wonders out loud whether it needs a player standing on it or could just be powered. Dash's whisper in chat settles it: yes, you can cheese it with a lever. The plan is to bring levers when they come back for the chests, unless they do it the regular way. That makes two plates so far.

Blazes, a pit and a lot of creepers

The blaze room spawns fast. "Dash is so fast he just runs in and lights everything up." One of them has to back off and recover. Later there's a scare over what looks like a charged creeper, which turns out to be a big wave of mobs spawning at once, and a spawner sitting on gravel that everyone expects to be a trap. It isn't.

Then comes a pit with a room below it. Somebody is down to seven arrows, and somebody else gets poisoned to half a heart. The AoE ability is a one-hit kill on the small mobs here. "I feel actually useful with that ability."

Disarmed like a pro

With the halls cleared, one of the party steps away for a minute and the others wait by a chest that looks trapped. They dig under it and take out the redstone block that would have set it off. "I've disarmed it like a pro." Inside is a creeper egg, and the trapped chest itself gets kept too. "I want a trap chest."

The loot run

Now it's looting time, working backward through every room. Out comes the luck helmet for opening chests, and somebody's pants turn out to be broken. One double chest has gravel behind it and a down arrow, which they read as a floor that blows up under you, so they block it off and dig the chest out instead. Under another, the one Dash whispers not to touch, sits TNT. It isn't primed. Beneath it are repeaters, and the chest holds a stick. "A stick of infinite power."

Inventories fill up fast. There's talk of whether leaves are safe as blocks next to lava, a speed potion nobody wants, and a quick hush when someone mentions natural spawns are off on the server. "I'm not bringing that up in chat."

A chest full of regular things

They drop everything off and sort it, with the uncommon items going in their own pile. Somebody figures they might finish the next half if they keep going. Then they go back for one more chest near the start, the one somebody remembered as the cool one. It's a regular chest. "I kind of expected it was gonna be super cool." The last chests of the run do turn up a set of Crimson Mage Robes. The episode ends with them heading back to drop off the loot, so the luck helmet isn't on when the next fight starts.
