BasketMC

Plaqueroot Temple (Magenta Wool), Part 2: Monumenta Episode 58

  • Published on

Part 1 ended with the group staring down into the pit and thinking about diving in. Part 2 starts right there. It's the same five: Basket, JJBonsig, WonderSim, johnfal_92 and dash10138, going by the nameplates. The job hasn't changed either. Nine Tlaxan totems to touch, and one is done.

Shoot the baby first

The mobs down here come stacked: baby zombies riding on ghouls. The lesson gets repeated until it sticks. Shoot the baby first. One player admits they hadn't understood how much that mattered until now. The villager zombies drop a potion when they die. A few minutes in, the group finds the next totem, and chat reads "Totem 2 has been activated."

Arrows are already running short, so someone pulls a few out of a trap. Then there's a trapped chest. One player disarms it while everyone else stands well back. It turns out to be creeper eggs. "I was expecting a more complicated trap."

Two deaths for Basket

Two baby zombies in a corner don't like Basket at all, and chat reads "BasketMC was slain by Raging Ghoul." The others help build a path back so Basket can reach the dropped stuff.

The next stretch goes down to the level of the pit, and the mobs come up to meet them. "They're all coming up." Chat reads "dash10138 was blown up by Creeper," and soon after, "BasketMC was killed trying to hurt Skeletal Abomination." In the scramble someone picks up other people's things by accident and drops them into a chest by the spot. A missing Soul Hammer turns up in there. Someone asks whether that makes three deaths now.

Halfway, maybe

Partway through, there's a quick explanation for anyone watching: this is a CTM MMO server, the temple has nine totems to hit, and after that comes a treasure room or a boss. Two are done, so it'll be a multi-day adventure. A few players run back to the entrance for supplies and a new bow. JJBonsig drops offline around here.

The room of death

Below is a room with lava on the floor and mobs with severe knockback. The group puts up a two-high wall. It's not tall enough. "Three high wall is required." Someone ends up in the lava twice and gets out on regeneration, and everybody survives. "Don't panic is the key." A helmet is about to break, and someone calls this one of the toughest parts of the dungeon.

A trap wired backward

The last puzzle is a trapped chest with good stuff in it and a ton of creepers if you get it wrong. Another player stands on top of the chest while Basket digs in underneath. The redstone is reversed, so breaking it would set the trap off. A pickaxe breaks partway through, but it was only Pebblebane, and there's a backup. "I think it's disarmed."

That's where they stop. Everyone needs repairs, two of nine totems are touched, and they guess they're at least halfway down. Someone calls it "probably the most complicated dungeon," and the easiest to get lost in.
