Basket and Scoti start a new Complete the Monument map, Uncharted Territory 3 by Amlup, on Hard. The first level is Overgrown Hollow, a ruin full of vines and stone brick, and it takes about thirty minutes to get three deaths and one decent chest out of it.
Rules first
The spawn room is all signs. Find the wool and complete the monument, play on at least Easy and never Peaceful, and stay inside the map. No wool from sheep, dye or spider string. A book adds the map's own rules: villager emeralds are for looks only, ender chests can't be placed, broken or moved, and climbing on the map ceiling counts as leaving the map. Clouds off is recommended, so the clouds go off.
They switch on the death counter. Then a button sends them through a one-way teleporter. "Whoa. This is gorgeous."
One bench of wood
There's watermelon by a sign telling them not to bother with saplings, and mushrooms to grab for food. Basket is slain by a zombie within the first few minutes. The wood runs out fast too. After a crafting bench there's only enough for one set of sticks, which means one sword and a debate over who gets it.
A chest has a stick, a pork chop, a clock, a leather hat and two energy drinks. A cake sits nearby and gets left where it is.
Spawners in the walls
The trick to this map, one of them explains, is watching for a little puff of fire coming out of a wall. That's a hidden spawner. The other admits to not seeing the first one at all. Wooden swords break one after another, and there's no cobblestone anywhere yet. A zombie gets Scoti next, and the counter is tied.
There's some hesitation about breaking every spawner. A skeleton spawner could mean arrows, but with no string there's nothing to shoot them from.
Not tied anymore
Torches run low, so they split the 23 that are left and look for spots with enough glowstone to spare. Then a creeper goes off and the chat reads "Scoti_Garbidis was blown up by Creeper." Two to one. "It makes me start back at the beginning, but I guess that's what I get." Scoti is back at the start of the level with no gear at all.
A chest worth opening
A tunnel at the back leads to the spawner that has been feeding the room. The chest next to it is the first good one: bottles o' enchanting, a gold helmet, a Smite III sword, coal, stone bricks, and a stone pickaxe at 51 of 131 durability. They talk about turning the room into a little grinder.
Everything goes into one large chest and gets split. Scoti takes the gold helmet. That first wooden axe turns out to have Efficiency IV and Unbreaking VII. "The initial axe we got was actually really good."
Up the vines
The way on is up. A skeleton shows up, then a zombie spawner sits next to a chest with an iron sword in it. They spot a creeper spawner, a tree full of spiders, and another creeper corner. The upside is cobwebs, which means string. The recording is at about thirty minutes, so they stop there.
