Dusky Grove Part 2: Uncharted Territory 3 Episode 5

  • Published on

Everything they own is lying on the floor of a room full of monsters, and every trip back for it ends on the death screen. This episode is the slow climb out of that hole, with a wooden pickaxe, two blocks of dirt and a lot of bone meal.

Like a couple of Minecraft professionals

It opens mid-fight. A creeper, an arrow from somewhere, and a plan to torch the place up that doesn't work. All of their stuff is over in the other room, so they rush back. One of them grabbed the Smite sword out of the box and plans to jump down and start giving the mobs hell. "Once again, like a couple of Minecraft professionals, rushing into town."

It goes about how that sounds. Baby zombies, creepers, and a skeleton spawner up top that nobody noticed. Somebody's sword is not in its normal hotbar spot at the worst moment. The death board starts the episode at Basket 7, Scoti 4, and it keeps climbing. "We are in a world of hurt right now." The good news, such as it is: all of their gear fits in one double chest. One of them floats the idea of a mob resource collecting system.

A pick made of scraps

With almost nothing left, one of them makes a pickaxe out of the last bit of wood and warns viewers this stretch might get cut. The gear is on the floor in the center, right under the water, and a mob down there has picked up a really good sword. "He's got a magic sword. He didn't drop it." Iron bars block the way.

Above the platform is a creeper spawner, and there's a chest up there too, with a golden apple in it. The mobs are climbing the vines. So is one of them, briefly. "I should not climb these vines anymore." Later the creeper spawner gets broken. "The spawner's gone."

Two dirt

Then a discovery: "This is the first dirt block I've seen." Dirt means trees. Getting it means another run into the bad room. "I'm gonna run down there and get that stuff, and then I'm gonna scream like a little girl." There are already creepers down there. The run comes back with two dirt and "the good stuff." "I'm a pro, I'm a pro."

On the way, a realization: they could have been making half slabs this whole time. Back at the chest they sort out armor. There's a chainmail helmet and a golden chestplate with Projectile Protection II. Basket takes the leather pieces and the boots, and the gold goes to Scoti. "It's all about fashion here with Basket and Scoti."

The intersection room is now a forest

The saplings were in their base chest the whole time. Add the dirt and a pile of bones, and they start bone mealing trees. "This intersection room is now a forest." The trees also mean a renewable source of torches. And they still have the Fortune pick. "Good job on us not losing that."

Food is the other problem. The brown mushrooms went into soup. There's no water in this room, no seeds, and they haven't seen any grass. A skeleton wanders in through the water and goes down for more bones. They also settle on a way to mark progress: once they beat a level, they'll knock that piece of white wool out.

One more suicide run

They call it an episode to regroup and do some off-camera stuff, with a promise of a lot more gear next time. Then they come right back for "one more suicide run" to get watermelon seeds, so they'll have a renewable source of food. One of them has 16 torches and becomes the torch guy. The other one does the running and screaming.

It's awful quiet in there. A skeleton shows up and gets ignored. "I left Basket behind," Scoti admits, but they get the watermelon. The death board ends the episode at Basket 12, Scoti 9.
