Dusky Grove Part 4: Uncharted Territory 3 Episode 7

  • Published on

This whole episode is one room in Dusky Grove, the big one with trees, dirt and spawners on the floor. They go in with a plan, no armor and a lot of torches. The death counter starts at Basket 13, Scoti 10. By the end it reads 20 and 13.

Potatoes and cobblestone

Scoti does the intro and hands it to Basket, who did some gathering off camera. A chest out back had food, including bread, and a potato turned up too, so the melon farm is now a potato farm. They cut down trees for torches and finally found the cobblestone a viewer said they'd missed. "We just assumed that there wasn't any cobble."

The plan

Dump everything but a sword, torches and food. Run in, one going clockwise and one counterclockwise, and light up anything dark. "If we die, it doesn't matter. We come back here and we have more things lit up." The idea is to keep most of the spawners for now and decide later which ones could become a grinder.

It holds up for about a minute. "Without armor on, this isn't gonna work." Skeletons shoot from the trees, and a zombie spawner sits above them. Then a zombie picks up a dropped wooden sword. "It's not just a wooden sword, it's the wooden sword that's kicking my frickin' butt right now!"

Slain by Zombie, again

The chat line "BasketMC was slain by Zombie" shows up seven times in this episode. Scoti falls to a skeleton early on, then a zombie, then a spider. The baby zombies get the worst reviews. "Those baby zombies are too overpowered."

Partway through, they start to disagree. One of them points out they already have a zombie and a skeleton grinder on one platform, so why not smash the rest? "No way, dude. What if we had more than just one?"

Between runs, someone crafts a stack of wooden swords and leaves them in the chest. When both of them die close together, they try something they admit is "kind of cheating": dropping the render distance to tiny so the mobs despawn. It seems to work.

Every spawner is a liability

They find a skeleton spawner under the watermelon, and zombies keep coming from somewhere up in the tree. Somewhere in this room there's supposed to be white wool, and the best guess is the top of that tree. A baby zombie chases one of them around the floor. "I really, really hate these kids."

That settles the spawner question for one of them. "I'm breaking every one I see." The other asks them not to break them all and gets this back: "You chose Hard. If you'd done Normal, maybe. Every little spawner is a liability at this point." The room has to be done tonight, they agree.

Up the tree

The episode ends with them making ladders and axes to climb and cut down the tree. One last zombie death goes on Basket's count, after a mixup over who was punching whom. "I wasn't punching you." They sign off at about 19 minutes with the wool still not found.
