Scorched Underpass Part 1: Uncharted Territory 3 Episode 21

  • Published on

The wool finally goes into the monument, and then they start on the light blue wool level, the Scorched Underpass. The death counter reads Basket 38, Scoti 23 from start to finish. That's one more for Basket than the end of the last episode, so it happened off camera. Nobody dies on camera this time, though it gets close.

Three wools in the monument

They start at Traveller's Respite, the new base. White, orange and magenta wool go into the first three slots of the Wool Monument. Someone hangs an item frame with a torch on the orange one to show how other teams decorate theirs. "Ours is gonna stay au naturel." Then they line up in front of it for screenshots.

Catching up

A lot happened off camera. There's a Fortune III, Unbreaking III pickaxe, four stacks of redstone mined with it, hoppers nobody has used yet, and creeper spawn eggs. "Can't wait to know what those are for." The good bow is saved for a repair. There's also a death chest, built because a viewer asks for one every episode. "So here you go."

Two rail lines now leave the base. One goes to the hub intersection and one goes to the Light Paladin grinder, which now includes a skeleton spawner they had missed. The paladins drop Feather Falling boots "like crazy," plus swords and their glowing heads, which they now carry by the stack as lights. Whoever built the rails admits the grinder is close to the intersection anyway. "I felt kind of silly building a railway both ways."

Burning zombies

The Scorched Underpass only goes one way: down. The zombies here are on fire and set you on fire, "but they don't do much damage otherwise." One drops an Azarian Trading Gem right away, and a lapis block up high is "teasing us."

Then a spawner kicks in. "We're activating a portal thing." "Portal?" "Sorry, a spawner." One of them catches fire. "So much for no death. I'm gonna burn to death." They fall back to a corner, get down to one heart, eat, and heal up. The zombies drop gems, Efficiency books, potatoes, rotten flesh and some odd sticks.

Merchants who only take gems

Further in there's a counter with two villagers under a sign: Azarian Automaton Merchants. Another sign says they only accept Legitimate Azarian Trading Gems. The Food and Potions Trader has a Poison Antidote (Regeneration plus Poison III), Night Vision, rotten flesh for steak, and spider eyes for chicken. The Basic Alchemy Trader turns bone and sugar into bone meal, gravel into flint, and sells a leather tunic and a Lacerator for five gems. The room turns out to sit right next to their base, so they block the way up.

A brick that hits back

Back down in the caves, a zombie is "beating me to death with a brick." They get the brick. It's the Scorched Slab: Sharpness I, Fire Aspect III, "It's giving off a lot of heat but it doesn't hurt to hold." The fire part may not help much, since these zombies seem resistant to fire. The stone swords aren't doing much either, and one of them ends up eating rotten flesh straight off the hotbar.

The blaze spawner question

Down "this pile of death" there are chests and a blaze spawner. It would be a better blaze spot than the one they kept by the lava, but keeping it means one person runs in to check the chests while it's still going. "That's a terrible idea." The blaze spawners go. One more spawner is hiding nearby, and after some guessing about the wall and the ceiling, they find it in the floor. They pick up blaze rods, and one of them has chewed through almost every pickaxe. That's where it stops.
