We find the first of the 54 bonus emeralds, spring a trap without meaning to, and spend a surprising amount of the episode negotiating over cookies.
Straight back into it
No easing in. The episode opens mid-fight with a baby zombie somewhere in the dark, a creeper overhead that we have not dealt with, and Basket announcing he is about to die. He eats his entire stock of rotten flesh to stay upright, which tells you roughly how the first minute goes.
Once that settles down it is housekeeping. Splitting bread, working out who is carrying the flint, counting feathers for arrows. The kind of inventory shuffle that happens when two people are sharing one pool of not very much.
Player collision is on
Worth flagging early because it shapes the whole series: player collision is enabled on this map. You can shove each other. In a narrow cave passage with a creeper coming down it, that is not a neutral detail.
We had the same thing in Captive Minecraft and liked it there. Here, with corridors this tight, the enthusiasm is more measured.
Emerald 1
Then the thing the episode is named for. Wool and emeralds turn up in the same area, and one of them is a numbered special: Emerald 1. First of fifty-four.
There is a sign nearby telling you to keep them safe, and the sign has a spelling mistake in it. Basket noticed. Basket could not stop noticing. It comes up again several minutes later.
Neither of us could remember the mapmaker's name at this point either, which produced a run of increasingly wrong guesses before landing somewhere near renderXR.
The cookie negotiation
A genuine highlight. Basket takes half the cookies from a shared chest. Scoti checks. There were eight. Basket took four. This is, mathematically, half the cookies. The conversation nonetheless goes several rounds before both parties accept it.
Somewhere in the middle of this Basket says he feels like he is playing with himself, which is about right for two people auditing each other's snack maths in a cave.
There is also a tangent about Scoti's apartment: ten degrees outside, a window open to the cold, and still seventy degrees indoors, because he is upstairs and all his neighbours' heat is rising into his floor.
A trap we set off ourselves
The last real beat is a dispenser that fires without warning. We spend a minute working out what triggered it and settle on the most likely answer: a redstone torch got knocked out or updated, the block state changed, and the dispenser did what dispensers do.
Not much redstone in this map so far, which makes the one piece of it we did meet memorable.
We finish with a solid coal haul, sixteen experience bottles deliberately banked rather than spent, and one emerald down.
