Two more of the fifty-four turn up, the death counter starts generating opinions, and we settle the oldest argument in the game: wear the good armour, or save it forever.

Ameliorating the situation

Basket opens by announcing he is going to ameliorate the emerald situation, then types it into chat as Amelia improve awesomeness, which is not the word. It stands unchallenged.

The actual amelioration is more emeralds, and this episode delivers two of them.

Whose deaths count more

The death counter has become a scoreboard nobody asked for. Basket is on four, Scoti on two, and Scoti is quick to point out that his were what he calls buddy deaths, incurred largely so Basket would not feel like the only one dying.

Basket's counter is that his two deaths carried far more consequence for the run, which is difficult to argue with given one of them took Emerald 1 into a lava flow.

Out of this comes a decision about the chain chestplate we have been carrying around unworn. The usual instinct here is to save good gear forever and never benefit from it. This time somebody actually puts it on.

Emeralds 2 and 3

The emeralds in this map are not lying in the open. They are tucked into containers off the main routes, which means the search pattern is less exploring and more checking every box in a room and then checking the room next to it.

Both of the ones we find here come out of that kind of patient poking about, along with some experience along the way. Straight into storage, per the policy we now take extremely seriously.

Two people digging toward each other

A recurring hazard of playing this map as a pair: both of us keep tunnelling toward the same spot from different directions without saying so. It happens twice here, once close enough to a lava river to be worth a warning.

Player collision makes that worse than it sounds. Being shoved is bad; being shoved on a ledge is a death; being shoved on a ledge above lava is a death and a lost inventory. There is a lot of careful narration in this episode about exactly where each of us is standing.

Church bells

We finish underneath the pink wool area with a plan to dig around below it next time. Basket asks whether Scoti can hear the church bells ringing. Scoti cannot. Basket explains that this is the sound of the episode ending.

Three emeralds recovered, one permanently lost, and the next wool is the target.
