Emeralds 4 & 5: Untold Stories 3 Episode 6

We walk into somebody else's fully stocked base, find two emeralds hidden under the floor, and somewhere in the middle have a surprisingly sincere conversation about being friends.

A whole base, just sitting there

The route down takes us past a drop the map has helpfully placed above lava, and then into something we were not expecting: a complete base. Beds, chests, brick rooms, supplies.

Basket's immediate reaction is that we should be glad we did not come here an episode earlier, because finding it now makes it worth the wait. Scoti's reaction is that he is going to sleep in the bed regardless of what is directly underneath it.

Relearning who we are to each other

Then the episode takes a turn nobody planned. Scoti says we need to relearn who we are to each other and embrace our friendship, immediately regrets the voice he said it in, and the whole thing spirals into an actual conversation.

His point, once he gets to it, is a decent one. When they first became friends he was more careful with what he said. Now that they are properly comfortable he just says whatever he thinks, and he wonders aloud whether that makes things worse.

Basket's verdict is that if there was ever an example of Scoti being Scoti, it is the emerald argument, where he was stubborn about putting them away and turned out to be completely right.

Under the carpets

The emeralds this time are properly hidden. Not in a chest, not on a ledge: underneath carpet blocks on the floor of one of the brick rooms.

Basket works it out only because he hears Scoti breaking carpet and cannot identify the noise. The search then becomes systematic, and two more come up.

Offered one to carry, Scoti declines immediately. His exact position: emeralds is lava. Nobody carries one anywhere ever again.

A short one

They call it themselves at the end, a bit of a shorty. Five emeralds accounted for out of fifty-four, one of them gone for good, and a base full of other people's furniture to come back to.
