We get a proper look at the victory monument, push into a cavern full of stone spires, and end on a chest of TNT that does something we did not expect.
The monument, and the skeleton guarding it
Before setting off we take stock of the victory monument, the thing all this wool is eventually going onto. It sits below a ledge Basket has already been up once, by accident, and been shot off by a skeleton for his trouble.
His stated policy on that ledge is that the best defense is a good offence, which in practice means going back up there with a sword.
There is also a short argument about shields. Scoti has one. Basket does not, has no iron to make one, and consoles himself with the position that shields are terrible now anyway.
Lumenspire Cavern
The cavern the episode is named for is one of the better looking places in the map so far. Stone spires hanging from the ceiling, lava pooled across the floor several levels down, and enough vertical space that getting from one side to the other is a genuine problem rather than a walk.
Most of this stretch is spent lighting it. Torches go on every flat surface we can reach, partly for visibility and mostly to stop things spawning behind us while we work.
Actually farming for once
A quieter thread runs through this episode: supplies. Wood has stopped being a problem, so the two of us start thinking further ahead. Saplings get pocketed. A watermelon gets split so both halves come home. Pumpkin seeds go in the bag.
The plan is a real garden back at base rather than living off whatever we loot. The one thing standing in the way, as Basket points out, is that we still do not have water.
The TNT was not a trap
The last find is a chest of TNT with a sign describing it as supplies to make a shortcut. Given this map, the immediate assumption is that somebody is about to get blown up.
Instead it is scripted. The charge goes off, and rather than leaving a crater it builds a platform that was not there before. Basket calls it straight away: a fake explosion and a command block, doing exactly what the mapmaker intended.
It is a nice reminder that this map is built rather than generated, and that most of what looks like a hazard is a puzzle with a solution.
